What's the hold up to a potentially really fabulous season?

RT.

What does this team do if Rogers, who has a right shoulder that is ready to crack at a moments notice, goes down?

I am really excited about some of the rookies thus far but one thing that stands out is the poor play at the RT position and the fact that thus far, Rogers is the guy looking the best. A guy who has had...how many shoulder surgeries?

Thoughts?

Well, Sarge. At least we won't have to suffer the Todd Steussie suggestions.

Tampa Bay just re-signed him.

Voller and Tucker, I guess.

Take Voller and have Dan Campbell line up on the right side and things would be fine.

It has to be a concern Sarge.........Guess at this moment in time it's Voller and Tucker as backup. Have no idea who, if anyone, would be available at this time.

Maybe we are waiting for some one to be cut????

Well, if you ask some of these posters, probably backup QB. :bang2:

You're right Duane. I just hate to use an extra blocker. Time will tell.

What if any starter at any position goes down?

I don't get the infatuation with Rogers and his shoulder.

We could have thrown some bucks at MacKenzie, but that would have looked like writing off Rogers pematurely, which it would have been. Glad now we didn't.

But Shelton (I don't care how fat he WAS) made sense....as a vet swing tackle.

what does Indy do if Manning does down? what about the Pats if Brady gets wasted...I'm guessing the Chargers losing LT wouldnt be good

I dont know any team in the 30 yrs or so I've watched football thats won or lost a championship because of who lines up at RT for them...I'm confident Rogers will do well, but even if he doesnt the RT position (just like those who go off the deep end about FS) wont cripple the team...it'd be a hinderance, but it wont cripple the team

Where did anyone say there was an infatuation with Rogers shoulder?

The fact of the matter is, he's had problems with it numerous times (anyone know how many surgeries he's had, I know it's at least 2 or 3).

IMO, it's a fair question to ask.

What if any starter goes down at any position you ask?

That's not my point.

My point is the total lack of depth at that postion and frankly, I am not impressed with any of them.

we're living in incredible fear here. Everyday we wake up with that sense of impending DOOM. The season is going to end today. In August.

This one's 'irreplacable", this one can't carry more than 3 times in preseason, this one can't be risked on returns, this one needs more rest, losing this one ends our 3-4 chances.

It's like playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded pistol.

Manning would be the singl most devastating injury that could occur to an NFL team right now. His backup is Garcia Sergio or something. You would think the Colts would have addressed that better in the offseason.

Is our backup QB important? Yes, but I don't believe our backup QB is in camp yet. I hope he is, but I'm afraid he may not be.

With all the holes we went into this offseason with, something had to get prioritized. FS and RT lost. Probably because adding a top corner and a pass rush minimizes the damage at FS, and adding an all-Pro RG and getting Campbell back minimizes the damage at RT.

In light of everything that (on paper at least) has gotten accomplished this offseason, I can't begrudge them that they didn't get enough depth at 1 offensive line position, and 1 spot in the secondary. Heck, the talent and depth added to the front-7 alone make a dubious spot on the O-line worth it.

Actually Sarge I'm starting to feel good about Rogers. The kid carried good draft grades out of college and he's no dummy. It's possible the shoulder was never fixed right in the first place. I was concerned more with his lack of strength coming out of college and now I think that's been mitigated.

I think Vollers is an adequate replacement. And I really like Petitti.

Tucker won't make it out of training camp IMHO.

It's the type of thing Sarge that truthfully we had far too many holes to fix everything in one season. We're going to need to upgrade several positions (possibly) come next offseason. FS, ILB, DT depth, WR, QB and maybe OT. We aren't a SB contender right now but we're a hell of a lot better than we have been talent wise over the last 5 years. I would just as soon let Rogers see if he can win the job, hold it for an entire season and do a decent enough job of it that we don't have to target OT with a high round draft pick or a FA come next offseason.

Who has a 3rd or 4th OT that's worth a damn anyways? There all nothing but Journeymen or washed-up has beens. Hence Kurt Vollers.

Rogers was considered the 3rd or 4th best OT in his class. So he needed a year in the gym to get up speed by NFL standards.

99.9% of NFL lineman due. Hell, Gallery was playing OG a lot last year.
