has anybody even reported a reason why?

anybody think jerry maybe had a little to do with it? seems like after jerry said what he did about the lack of production of this defense this change came.

Well to begin with- we only have SPECULATION that we will be using the 4-3.

no, its just stupid coaching

the 3-4 would work fine if it was the right version of it...the ultra vanilla creampuff variety we run wont cut it though

I don't think it will be a 4-3, I think it will still be a 3-4 but with more close in involvement of LBs and safeties and I think they will show blitz more and actually blitz more creatively than they have been doing. I think the D will go into a more attacking more, much as they did against Indy.

This is not the time to change schemes, only to adjust your present scheme some and be more flexible and less obstinate.

well, 3-4 relies on the abilities of the LBs...and frankly, they've let the defense down. They're not getting pressure on the QB and they're blowing coverages (see Kevin Burnett fall for the fake by TE Lewis last week)

At this point, I think trying ANYTHING is a good idea. Get Junior Glymph in there. Drop to a 4-3 and get Ratliff or Stanley in there. Run Bobby Carpenter at FB...ANYTHING hehe

Let's just hope it wasn't Jerrys idea.

not sure if we're going with it but if you can't continue doing the same thing and expecting different results. Something has to change.

I disagree this is the perfect time to change things up. Since Ellis got hurt our 3-4 has failed miserably. If we don't change to a 4-3 we have no prayer in the playoffs.

Funny how everyone complains about the coaches and then argues that we shouldn't change :)

I agree with you we need to try something else.

Oh I know my comment wasn't directed at you. Directed more towards the threads this week about wanting change. Then the same people that want change don't want to switch defenses ;P

I still think it more of a ok Zimmer if you want to be here next year show me what you got. 2003 was the exception instead of the norm for Zimmer.

No problem. I do have to think though, a change in week sixteen/seventeen?
My bet (usually wrong) is just more substitutions, and taking more chances.
Not a whole sale change in philosophy.

Your reservations are justified.

Here is why I think it will work.

Every starter comes from a 4-3 scheme and many of the players have already run the Dallas system.

We have no pass rush and our best pass rushers are:
Ratliff
Coleman
Hatcher
Ware

We need a scheme to get those guys in there. Most of them are not big enough for the 3-4 end and not athletic enough for LB (Cept Ware). Only alternative is a 4-3. Bobby, Akin, Burnett are good in coverage which is essential for the OLB spots in a 4-3. James scares me a bit but maybe Fowler could see some time.

I really see the DT positions in the 4-3 comparable to what Jax has. Spears and Fergy rotating Canty would be tough for an OL to move.

I don't think this would transition into next year because we will be able to shore up holes.

If the 4-3 works well this team will have a shot in the playoffs but if we persist in the 3-4 we will not last very long. We are missing pieces for the 3-4 to be successful in my opinion.
