Every camp report I read says that he is consistently getting manhandled. He was getting mauled last year, too. So much for the extra weight he gained in the offseason. Jeez, aren't there any decent centers out there? Can Linc Kennedy can play center?

Sometimes, people just can't play. I really want Al to be great or good, but maybe he just doesn't have the physical ability to get it done. I don't know..........

yes, alot has been made of him adding bulk...but we're hearing the same old stories of him getting knocked off the ball. But, he's smart and mobile...yawn

I'm not dumping specifically on Al, cause we'll be hearing the same stories of Gurode's mental errors in a couple of days.

is it that freaking hard to find a center? nothing flashy, just smart and solid.

the one on one drills are never going to show a small lineman's ability. he'll never be the center who can body up a big NT -- he'll always need help with that -- most do -- that's kinda why it is the NTs job to take on two guys.

I think this was mentioned in another thread recently, but I think Al's biggest problem might be his height. I can't think of a ton of centers who are 6'5. Because he is so tall, that might allow players to get under him and push him backwards.

Having said that, I don't really think Al Johnson is as bad as a lot of people are making him out to be. It's still early in camp, and even with some of the problems he has had in the regular season, he's also been solid.
