Just wanna know what everyones expectations will be this year for our defense. I really believe with our second year now with Wades style of the 3-4 we will be much better than we were last season. We really didnt lose anyone to free agency on defense besides Jaque Reeves and he wasnt a major part of our defense last season. Yeah he did a fair job filling in when Henry and Newman were hurt at different times last season and he did ok as a nickel back but we added a 1st round draft CB who should be able to come in and contribute asap,we also got another cb in the draft that alot of people had as one of the best corners in this years class. Oh and I almost forgot there is a possibility that we will have Adam Jones to help out our secondary too:laugh2:

I really think that we could be one of the top 2-3 defenses in the league this year so I just wanna know your guys expectations

Last year we had secondary issues with injuries, poor play and little depth.

Based on the improvements alone I expect better play from the secondary. Simply put...

Adam Jones > Jacques Reeves
Mike Jenkins > Nate Jones
Orlando Scandrick > Even Oglesby or Alan Ball

I believe Keith Davis is the hardest piece to replace from last year's secondary and that more on Special Teams than on Defense.

Terence & Anthony healthy is a major upgrade alone.

I expect Zach Thomas to be a noticable improvement over Akin Ayodele. No disrespect to Akin, but no comparison either and I think Thomas can have a major influence on Burnett and Carpenter and that is nothing but good.

Most improved player from 2007 to 2008 will be Anthony Spencer. I also expect Ware to approach 20 sacks. Yep, I'm serious. He may not quite get it, but he will get close.

Tank Johnson won't have a rushed 8 week program this year and that is a huge bonus. Ratliff is always intense. I like the Dixon kid to make the team over Stephen Bowen.

The better coverage should mean more sacks. So should familiarity with the assignments and system.

I like the coaching additions of Grantham on DL and Herring on LBs. I believe the front 7 will be a lot more aggressive than we've seen in a long time.

I'm not as crazy about the addition of Campo, but hope he and Brett Maxie can take the talent here and make a great unit. If they can't it will be a complete shame.

I'll be disappointed in this unit if we are not a top 5 defense in run stopping, pass defense and most importantly points allowed.

I fully expect it to be down right dominant when Roy Williams gets his act together, I know I've been a critic but I'm really pulling for him to turn it on this season...

Good rundown of each player/position. Tank improves the line, but what of Canty/Spears? Will a better backfield help them?

Here is where I think Zack Thomas makes the biggest difference. I think his ability to quickly read what an offense is doing he will be able to help make adjustments before the ball is snapped.

I expect them to play like the unit that stopped the eventual super bowl champions four times to end the playoff game....and then some.

Like to see some heart from them as well as some plain old Randy White "I am going to tear your head off" attitude.

Too many drama queens on that side of the ball anymore.

Great summary, Hos. I agree on every point.

Aside from those improvements, I expect Dallas to play with three corners on the field more than any team in the league.

I predict numbers similar to these:

53 sacks (20 for Ware)
30 INTs
15 fumble recoveries
17 points/game allowed

Agree 100%. With the talent, Wade getting a year with these guys and an offense who gives them plenty of production (time to rest) in games this defense should be dominant.

I think anything less than a top 5 defense in all categories would be a disappointment. I mean, our defense has been a disappointment regularly the past few years despite having so much money tied up in it, but I mean we literally have everything you could ask for in a top defense except execution. So here's hoping it all comes together this year and we stay healthy.

Last year cured me of having any expectations; I'm just going to settle back and watch it unfold and whatever happens, happens.

Yeah, I know it's a copout but that's the way I'm gonna take it - one game at a time and no expectations.
