C'mon, yeag - you gotta at least know AFI, and the Transplants. ;) They're purty mainstream. It's no skynyrd, but it's close.

That's a kick-*** list, t75.

I love the Murphy's and Flogging Molly. By far the best shows I've ever been to.

I just heard some Jedi Mind Tricks today, and it completely rawked my sawks.

Also, New Noise is one of the greatest songs of all time. If anyone hasn't heard it -get to hearin' it.

GAWD, I'm old... I don't recognize more than a half dozen songs on any of the playlists offered so far...

Which doesn't mean I won't share the tunes I have on my "Favorites" CD that I burned:

Watching the River Run-- Loggins & Messina... one of their prettier ballads, as top 40 as they ever got...

Black Velvet-- I think the lady's name is Alanna Myles, or something close to that... a good blues song, with a driving bass line...

Cover of the Rolling Stone-- Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show... always good for a laugh, I enjoy the way they're crackin' themselves up during the song...

Speed of the Sound of Loneliness-- Nanci Griffith (with John Prine, who wrote it)... a beautiful, if little known song, very introspective...

Double Bogey Blues-- from the movie soundtrack for "Tin Cup", don't recall who does it... anything that mixes golf with good blues is right up my alley...

Total Eclipse of the Heart-- Bonnie Tyler (with Meat Loaf)... a tad theatric, and at times Bonnie's voice is a grating screech, but at times it's just brilliant...

Uneasy Rider-- Charlie Daniels band... I'm a sucker for comic songs, and this one just DESTROYED me the first time I heard it...

Angry Eyes-- Loggins & Messina ...can you tell, I was once a big fan of L&M?? A fine rock song with an amazing instrumental break... the only problem is, it's so long it cut down on the number of songs I could fit on that CD...

If You Could Read My Mind-- Gordon Lightfoot... a lot of the time, Gordon was too nasal for my musical tastes, as on "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald", but on this one, his vocals are great... the lyrics are a tad out there, but a pretty melody...

Walking Back to Georgia-- Jim Croce... not his best song, or even close, but the guitar work of his sidekick Maury Muehlheisen is awesome...

Why Don't We Get Drunk-- Jimmy Buffett... I'm a parrothead, and it was about time for another comic song... when making up this compilation, I was looking for a blend between ballads (which is my preference most of the time), uptempo numbers and funny songs...

Unforgettable-- Nat King Cole... I know, I know, this REALLY marks me as an old f*rt, but I've never heard a finer singing voice than his... I mean, it's so smooth you could pour it over your pancakes... I never get tired of hearing him sing this one...

A Little Bit Is Better Than Nada-- the Texas Tornados... another cut from the "Tin Cup" soundtrack, I like the bouncy energy of this one... a third cut from that soundtrack, "This Could Take All Night" is the opening cut on my Favorites II CD...

Doolin-Dalton/Desperado Reprise-- the Eagles... from their "Desperado" album, this is the closing track... they'd already done Doolin-Dalton and Desperado earlier in the album, this brings both back with additional lyrics, and a GREAT dobro solo bridging the two of them...

BTW, I read this morning that the Eagles have an album of all-new material that they'll be releasing in the next 2-3 months, their first new album since 1979's "The Long Run"... I can't WAIT...

It's Five O'Clock Somewhere-- Allan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett... God bless Allan for bringing Jimmy back to popularity, giving him more commercial success than he ever enjoyed... the byplay between the two of them at the end of this one is fun...

There's 15 songs that always help me make an hour of drive time more enjoyable...

As I mentioned, I have a second favorites mix, and I have a mix of my favorite country-western songs... that one's long on Patsy Cline and Travis Tritt...

Cmon, bear - I know almost all of the ones on your list. ;) Branch out!

Although, I've never listened to Patsy Cline, no matter how much my grandfather raves about her. :D Cover of the Rolling Stone - greatness.

Naw, I don't have the money to go buying a bunch of bad music... :D

Although, I've never listened to Patsy Cline, no matter how much my grandfather raves about her. :D

In rebuttal, I offer the words of one James Buffett, in a lesser known song titled "Miss You So Badly":

I've got a head full of feelin' higher
And an ear full of Patsy Cline
There is just no one who can touch her
H*ll, I'll hang on every line...

Coincidentally, the hotel I work at is like 2 miles up Pleasant Valley Avenue from the graveyard where Patsy is buried, in her home town of Winchester, Virginia...

And I swear I'm not making this up, I once dated a woman who for a time dated Charlie Dick, Patsy's husband... this was after Patsy died, though it could easily have been before it, ol' Charlie was known as a bit of a horn doggie... but whenever she and I would get busy together, all I could think of was "d*mn, I'm with a woman who's been with the man who slept with Patsy Cline"... it ain't quite Kevin Bacon's six degrees of separation, but it was a bit of a turn-on...

Ol' Colleen was still a real sharp older woman, a bit less than 10 years older than me...

Cover of the Rolling Stone - greatness.

We've got a lot of little teenage, blue-eyed groupies
Who'll do anything we say
We've got a genuine Indian guru
Who's teaching us a better way

Well, it's all designed to blow our minds
But our minds won't really be blown
Like the blow that'll get ya when ya get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone...

They don't write 'em like that any more... I don't EVEN want to think about what combination of recreational chemicals were ingested in the course of writing that song...

I can't remember, did they ever make the cover?? LOL...

Well put as usual Bear :D

To be fair, I never heard any hip hop I like, but there are a few groups out there still doing some fair rock and roll... but I have never been a metalhead, not even the metal groups of my generation...

And there are some really fine voices making pop music these days too...

Bad music!!!!

You never know until you try it.

Satellite radio is the ****. If I feel like rap, I got rap. If I feel like listening to stuff from the 20s, I got that. You can get Mp3 players that willrecord the songs straight from the satellite feed. I only actually buy something that I really need to hear more of - ie the stuff on that list up there.

Honestly - if you can go to http://www.m-yspace.com/againstme (just remove the hyphen) and listen to Reinventing Axl Rose, or any of the other songs, and not just go WOW! I don't know that there's any hope for you. ;) You're probably not alive. :D

For anyone that wants to hear New Noise - http://www.m-yspace.com/refused It will rip your head off and hock a loogie down your throat. lol...(although you might want to start with Summer Holidays vs. Punk Routine and work up to New Noise ;))

This is the kind of thread I always end up discovering new music from.... it's the best thing about the "long tail" and music.... before u had to read in a magazine or hunt around in a record store to find something cool -- which made the choices always subject to the "gatekeeping" of editors and music store buyers and etc... -- which would lead inevitably to mediocrity and the prevalence of "poser music" -- i.e. stuff that you want to like because you think it's cool, not because you really like it. Music journalism especially creates high-profiles for really lame stuff, because journalists are always looking behind their backs, trying to profile something that they think in 2 years people will think they were cool for liking "way back when".... I GREATLY prefer the democratic nature of threads like these, where people simply list their tastes and you can just look something up on itunes or youtube and check it out for yourself....

MY PLAYLIST TODAY.....

David Guetta "Love Is Gone"
Thomas Falke "Revolution On The Dance Floor"
Groove Cutter "My Shooter"
Control One "Just A Little Bit"
Ian Carey "Redlight"
Kevin Weg "Dead Radio"
Menace & Adam "Missile Test"

I don't usually go for techno but these are sort of like a wierd crossover between rock and techno/trance.

Most of these I found at this itunes page -- http://www.electricfilebox.com/tracks
