just right off the bat when i say football i mean soccer.

anyway the reason i thought of this thread is i'm currently unable to play football as i'm resting my ankle after sustaining ligament and soft tissue damage playing seven a side football at the beginning of the month. it was a strange one as i felt it at the time but was able to run it off and continue playing for around three quarters of an hour. by the time i got home and went to bed it was starting to hurt and then i woke up at 3 in the morning with the pain. went to a&e (you call it e.r.?) the next day as i couldn't put any weight on it whatsoever and ended up having to use a walking stick for a few days just to get around the house.

also had a couple of ankle sprains in the past and years ago pulled a muscle in my groin area , no s******ing at the back, which i never allowed to heal properly and was back playing football weeks before the doctors were wanting me doing anything more strenuous than walking (i was about 14 or something, wouldn't be so stupid now). to this day it hurts in cold weather and if i don't warm up properly before a game it tends to play up, also tends to bother me when i go hillwalking.

last year i had to spend a day lying on the floor because i twisted something in my back trying to squeeze through a gap between two defenders that wasn't there. also had a couple of concussions, one drink related the other from a clash of heads going for a high ball that also resulted in a broken nose and of course the usual scrapes and grazes from being tripped and a few cuts from studs catching me on the legs and a few on the ribs.

anyway i'm sure some of you guys most have some worse injuries/better stories than that playing such a high contact sport.

Other than a knee injury I took a line drive off a bat while playing 3rd base when I was 13. I chewed Redman tobacco and the ball hit me square in the cheek. I swallowed the who chaw. Dr. said it probably kept me from breaking my cheek bone but I had one heck of a bruise and swollen eye for a good long while.

Oh and I never chewed Redman again. Don't know which was worse. The line drive or the sick I got after swallowing the chew. :puke:

Borken/Dislocated two fingers on my left hand playing football. Never went to the doctor since I was told it was probably just a sprain by several adults, and I was a kid at the time. Of course it wasn't, and they didn't heal straight. So I've got two crooked fingers on my left hand.

Other than that I seperated my right shoulder playing basketball in HS, and it still gives me issues now and then.

Got hit with a fastball in the face while playing baseball. Broke my jaw and smashed inn all of my bottom front teeth.
It was a tournament in Sweden and i had to have surgery in a Swedish hospital. The standard of care is pretty much the same as in Norway but there's something really creepy about being in the hospital in another country no matter how good they are.

I had problems chewing for almost 3 months.

It's funny that after all of the sports i've done where injuries are quite common my worst one came in a sport i would have never expected to get hurt.
I played football, basketball, soccer and did Muay Thai and never had anything more the some wear and tear injuries yet when i try my luck at probably the least physical sport i've ever done i get the worst injury i've ever had. Other then that baseball injury a few broken fingers, some ankle sprains and some wear and tear on my knees from having the repetitively kicked over a course of my youth, nothing major

Torn meniscus in my right knee from intramural flag football in 2001. It still hurts and needs to be fixed.

slightly torn muscle, cant really describe it neither could the doctor but whenever I would bend or run my right hip would kill me. he said play threw it.

hairline fracture in my tailbone, was annoying but the pain was manageable just couldn't workout since it would've gotten aggravated.

I was playing some hoops at the local playground. After a missed shot by my team, I got the rebound and went back up strong and made a thunderous dunk. On the way back down someone undercut me. I tried to brace my fall but took full impact on my elbow. I was never sure what damage was done but I couldn't bend my arm and it bothered me for the longest time.

I had some pretty wicked callouses on my thumbs from excessive amounts of Nintendo playing.

Pulled a chest muscle the same way. Every breath was agony.

broke my thumb, pointer finger, and pinky finger all in one tackle. My hand was on the running backs shoulder pad and a teammate came in and hit it with his helmet
