Firmly believe he makes the team. He's been a warrior in his training regiment this offseason. I think he'll start off in a limited role (obvious passing downs; redzone) but as the coaches and Dak get more and more familiar with him, and he listens to Witt, his role will grow, and by the end of the season and into the post season, he'll have a decent impact on our O. One of his biggest obstacles is getting down zone and man blocking. He does that, and he'll get more and more playing time. He needs to use that massive frame to block! I have faith he'll get there.

I think he will really start to carve a name for himself next season, after two consecutive offseasons of high work ethic/training. Plus that small taste of success from this season will feed him more going into next, Loc.

That's what I hope, anyway. I feel it's realistic and in line with all that we've heard from the coaches and Witt, thus far.

Don't know what to think about Gathers. Can he play in the NFL? I really hope so..he is a giant and could be a killer in the redzone!! Is he for real. We will know soon enough. He will have some time to learn behind Witten and Hanna...and thats a good thing.

He either makes the team or he is gone - he will not spend another year on the practice squad. With all the hype, it's nearly certain that another TE-starved team would sign him.

I believe he makes the team but what we saw in mini-camp was not encouraging.

if he keeps making mental mistakes on his blocking he wont last long there is no way he plays if the team thinks he wont get his mental part right to keep the qb from getting hurt

I think he gets another 500k, maybe a bit more, to be on the practice squad. I still can't bring myself to believe he can be ready after one year of football training. I'd like to be wrong.

Tough call. I would like another year for him on the practice squad but that opens him up to being poached by another team after all the work by the Cowboy's

I think Swaim and Hannah provide better depth and options at this specific time.

Is he eligible for another year on the PS?

Well, according to Broaddus, Rico is having trouble with his routes, due to stiffness that prohibits his effectiveness. The staff is working with him tirelessly, including keeping him after practice to overcome his stiffness and work with him. They have invested a lot of time in him and won't likely release or relegate him to the practice squad for that reason, feeling that he'd soon be picked up by another team.

Reportedly, there has also been some degree of speculation by staff members that he might possibly be switched to OT if he's unable to progress as effectively as is necessary. I'm really hoping his route-running problems can be overcome and that he'll manage to find some success at TE. If not, perhaps a switch to OT might be in the offing. It should prove interesting to see how much action Rico gets in camp and preseason games.
