News: When camp ends, what will be Rico's role

He's going to make the team, but they won't put Dak's health in his hands.

He'll play special teams and redzone offense until they feel his blocking is up to snuff.

Exactly. I was not completely sold on Swaim either, but they had something going last year. And I think that could be even better this year.
So I am sold on him going into this season. To me Swaim makes it over Hanna.

I need to see Rico in PS games with the 1st and 2nd teams to be 100% sold on him.
We always get hype on a few players, and most need a player to here on. And they usually turn out the opposite of what people think. I am pulling for Gathers, and think he makes the 53, depending need / injuries at other positions, but he could be inactive for a good part of the season.

Right now I have him on my 53.

Great that we have 5 preseason games. Will be Rico's chance to prove his worth and get key live reps. I think he is TE4 to begin season, but displaces Hanna by mid season.

I think it is way too early to know. He will have pre season to show how much he has progressed. I think he has a chance to compete for the 2nd TE spot but will not be handed to him if he gets it, it will be because he earned it.

I dont see how anybody can make any kind of judgment on his progress since they are only able to see him 1 day out of the week and for a limited time on that day i think.

Don't see them carrying 4 TE's. Someone wll get cut or maybe traded.

Tough call. I would like another year for him on the practice squad but that opens him up to being poached by another team after all the work by the Cowboy's

I think Swaim and Hannah provide better depth and options at this specific time.

Is he eligible for another year on the PS?

With the coaching staff's history of not being able to integrate other TEs and get them on the field as more than blockers, I don't really expect much out of Rico.

I wish I was wrong, because he could be impossible to guard in the red zone.

He makes the team as a red zone slash blocking TE option.

He probably already knows the offense better than MartyB ever did.

MartyB played a lot of snaps in Dallas due to overwhelming physical ability that overshowed a complete lack of scheme knowledge.

Rico should be able to fill that role this season.

When MartyB was here, they still played John Phillips when they required the 2nd TE to line up in the backfield or do anything complicated.

If Hanna is healthy showing no signs of the knee injury, you have to keep him. Swaim did a solid job last season but Hanna is better. Seems like the coaches and management are all pulling for Gathers so i think he makes the 53. I think they go 4 deep at TE and Swaim makes it too.

I'm not sure Hanna is better than Swaim.

Hanna is not natural as a receiver.
