I think he gets another 500k, maybe a bit more, to be on the practice squad. I still can't bring myself to believe he can be ready after one year of football training. I'd like to be wrong.
If Hanna is healthy showing no signs of the knee injury, you have to keep him. Swaim did a solid job last season but Hanna is better. Seems like the coaches and management are all pulling for Gathers so i think he makes the 53. I think they go 4 deep at TE and Swaim makes it too.
That plus JWits age convinces me the opposite. With the coaching staff's history of not being able to integrate other TEs and get them on the field as more than blockers, I don't really expect much out of Rico.
I think they'll keep 4 TE's and he'll make the team. What gets overlooked with our offense and the O-Line is that while the O-Line is great, we depend a lot on the TE's blocking ability in the run game to make things work. When the TE's are blocking well, we can effectively set the edge and with EE carrying the ball and Dak at QB that makes us extremely dangerous.
When we are effectively setting the edge we can essentially get to open all 3 lanes on the running play and then fake the outside zone run and go with an inside zone run. And if the weakside contain keeps crashing down to help with the run, we can call a bootleg play fake and likely get an easy, big play off the pass. Then the weakside contain has to be responsible for Dak and that means more 10 vs. 10 football on run plays which is where we win.
We saw last year the running game take a bit of a downturn when Swaim went out and was replaced by Escobar. I think people forget how well Hanna can block and he's got some receiving ability, too (and he's only 27 years old).
I tend to trust Broaddus' opinion on these matters, so I don't think he'll get much playing time unless one of the TE's gets injured. But, we'll probably keep 4 TE's because of Rico's abilities and potential along with how important TE's are to this offense.

I don't know why you would trust the opinion of Broaddus. He has been wrong more often that not. Do you remember how he said all offseason a few years ago that Marinelli was going to Tampa?
The media including the Cowboys own media people barely got to see anything in this year's OTA practices. It was just a few minutes and some days it was zero. They got less access than in past years for some reason.
I trust him when he tells me that Rico is stiff in his routes. And it makes a lot of sense since that is normally what former bball players struggle with in the transition to football.

I think he has MartyB physical ability but with a better mental makeup.
Go cowboys!
The Rico Act is about to unleashed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This team isn't likely to put Rico on the practice squad for the simple reason that another team would snap him up in a hurry. Dallas has way too much time and money invested in him to let him get away now. That comes not just from me but those close to the team. He'll make the 53 active roster this year. Next year might be anyone's guess, depending upon what he's able to accomplish in 2017.
