When should we know who the left guard will be in 2017

Makes sense to me.

The "maybe some of you will remember" part struck me funny. One of the fun things on here is that many of us remember Herbert Scott: Kyle Kosier was just the other day.
I could of used Herb Scott but not many would of remembered him(I may have to rethink that statement). Kosier sounds more like I did not see Watergate play out in the papers or the JFK Dallas tragedy on the telly in black and white while playing with my slinky.

I would not be surprised if they moved Collins back to LG with Green at RT. I give it 60/40, RT/LG.

Green was very good in 2 starts at LT last season. His only issue is staying healthy.

Cooper looked reasonably good in 3 starts with the Browns last season. If healthy, I'm confident he can be at least decent and probably better than that.

Bell has played a lot of games and never looked as bad as Free did last season.

Cleary looked ok in 1 game last season but it was the final and meaningless game.

There is no reason Collins cannot be much better than Free. Green as well but his honking big red klaxon blaring problem is that until he does it no one thinks he can get through a season where you can rely upon him game after game. So frankly I think it is Collins job to lose now. And I don' t think he will . Green to me is the best choice of swing tackle since you know he can do it; and as a backup you don't get injured much. Bell is I think good but that is his limit. Cleary- who knows?

Cooper is the joker in the deck; now that he is fully healed up there is no excuse for him not shining at guard. I was able to locate some film of him in college and looking at him now I do not see any less athleticism. BUT we have to wait until they get the pads on to know.

Stas---- I too hope Cooper balls out in TC....i hope he becomes an interiior O Line Mauler...just imgagine if we had ...Allen from the 90's...bench press 725...total Mauler
yes i am greatly worried about our inteiror O Line...i think Collins is locked in at right tackle...and if somehow Cooper could regain form and find his speed and mobility again
to go along with the power he has gained while training in NFL then we will ball out this year...the whole season rests on our Left Guard potential

I'm optimistic that Cooper may finally get it right. I've said before, if not here (with this line and scheme), not anywhere. But I also think that the team has a few options if he doesn't, in Byron Bell and Green in a worst case scenario.

And for as much worry as I have for Cooper, I have more optimism that Collins can be a huge upgrade over Free at right tackle.

IMO, it is Cooper's job to lose...we will glean ZERO from the pre-season games because the actual starting until won't be in there much during those games...Cooper and anyone else will look immensely better once they have pro-bowlers next to them in a game...so, Cooper wins (already has) the job unless he hands it away
