When the Fan Base sees the same thing as other Offensive Coordinators

This subject has been addressed partly in other post but I think that it needs to be pointed out again. When the fan base addresses exactly the same thing that opposing OCs see, then the coaching staff needs to pay attention.
1. The front seven is so concentrating on the QB that the RB has options.
a. They do naked runs around the ends with success.
b. They are easy passing targets out of the back field.
c. The LBers (except Lee) do not have the eyes (know how) to detect the running back moving without the ball.
d. JS needs to cook a little longer before playing NFL LBer.
2. The center of the front seven is the weakest of the defense.
a. The one tech is the biggest problem in the DL, there is no push of the pocket back to the QB.
b. No push means that the QB can step up (see Rogers) into the pocket.
c. The RB can see the openings and the options for a run. Pushing the OL back presents the best option for loss of yardage.
3. The secondary is never in a position to make plays. This is the single worst problem on defense.
a, When good QBs do the same thing and beat the secondary like dirty rug, then something is wrong with the scheme. This has been a problem for a while and the coaching staff WILL NOT CHANGE.
b. The soft zone is trash and should be trashed.
c. Other teams use combinations of tight zone and press man coverage. They make plays and turnovers.
4. Coaching staff does not do tactical changes during the game. This is the foremost reason why the Cowboys lose games at the end.

Summary: The coaching staff is old style and the game has pass them by. Players are in the wrong position. Doing the same thing and expecting different results. Talent alone is not good enough in today's NFL.

We have not even addressed the offense yet!!

I hope somehow, someway they come out of this bye week a different, better team. I know that is asking to much. But even if they come out and look good against SF and pull out a win. I will still need them to beat Washington nd play well, then I may start thinking they righted the ship.

But they always come out of the bye week flat. So I am not expecting much in SF. And I think SF is better than their record.

If we can't beat SF then the whole season is going to be a struggle.

He's done a good job, but they're defense was good before he arrived.

They had pieces like Cox before he arrived. However, their defense was pretty crappy under Kelly and the system he ran.

Schwartz came in and went back to a 4-3 and the team made some very shrewd moves. McLeod was a great signing last year to solidify the S spot opposite Jenkins. They went out and added a veteran LB in Bradham, who has been a very nice player for them. They swapped 3rd round picks to get Jernigan at DT to play next to Cox and he's been destroying interior OLs. They also went out and added Darby at CB (and they are winning while he's out hurt).

Basically they did what most of us wanted the Cowboys to do. Get rid of a bad scheme and bring in some legitimate players to fill holes in the defense.

The Eagles have a ton of front-7 talent. Jernigan was a great pick up (why don't we do stuff like that..?). They gave up a 3rd for him. Cox is one of the more dominate interior lineman. Graham is a monster, and Vinny Curry stifles the run. Those guys open it up for Hicks and Kendricks (who's having a big revival) to fly around with no one blocking them. Jenkins is a phenomenal safety and McLeod is very solid. Them not having CBs doesn't matter. Schwartz has done a good job, but man that talent gives him a lot of options.

I was struck last night by Nantz and Romo talking about the Andy Reid coaching tree. Pederson was on the list as were many other NFL coaches.

Where is the Garrett tree, what will it be? What tree is he from?

They actually just swapped 3rd round picks for Jernigan. That's it.

Now granted, they have to make a decision on him, I believe, this offseason in terms of a new contract as he's coming up on FA. And it probably won't be cheap for them.

Exactly. So for a drop of like 12 picks or so, I believe, they landed a really good DT that maybe they will have for one year.

We added Paea. LOL.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Absolutely.

If they are anywhere close to being as good as they think they are, they put a beat down on them.

Instead, we might get fortunate to squeak out a W, then our head coach the next day is talking about how hard it is to win in the NFL.

They also added Chris Long. He's a vet and not great anymore, but he's a high-energy, high-character guy. I love adding a guy like that to a defense that needs leadership. Another thing we refuse to do. There have been a few guys over the past couple years who would've had that impact, but we decided against it.

I'll mention him again, but Jenkins as well. Went out and signed him. High-character, talented player. We've done a lot right on offense, but have almost completely ignored the defense. We're paying for it. Our fate relies on completely on one player: Sean Lee. Without him, the defense is hopeless.

Last two offseasons, these are the more high profile, non-drafted players we added and the Eagles added. Is there any surprise why one is playing much better than the other?

Cowboys - Mayowa, Carroll, Paea, Moore, Thornton

Eagles - Bradham, Jernigan, Darby, McLeod
