When was the last time we made a meaningful trade?

All of the speculation on making trades this time of year made me wonder when was the last time the Cowboys made a meaningful trade. Meaningful as in something better than trading a TE for a 7th round pick.

Terry Glenn for a 6th to GB sounds pretty meaningful to me.

We traded our first round pick to the Browns for their first round pick.

Or we traded Brady Quinn for whoever we draft with the 22nd overall pick.

Cowboys traded Joey Galloway to TB for Keyshawn after 2003.

We traded Green Bay a 6th rounder for Terry Glenn after 2002.

There's the dreaded two first rounders to Seattle for Joey Galloway trade in 2000.

Also like to add that the 2004 looks to be a wash for both the Bills and Dallas.

Bills are about to bounce Losman elsewhere.

Dallas is going to let Julius walk.

Spears involved in trade rumors.

Even tho at one point, it looked like the 'boys got the better end of that deal.

Nah, Dallas got the better end of that. Spears is a good player. Now, if the Cowboys take something for Spears and that player ends up being a bust, then it's a wash. Right now, if we keep Spears, thats more than the Bills got. Spears is a starting quality player.

All good stuff. I consider the Cleveland trade a draft day deal because it was. I was thinking since the infamous two first rounders for Galloway that not much has been done. I guess it would be the 6th for Glenn.

My point is all of this Madden game type stuff simply doesn't happen. Swapping players and high draft picks.

I'd have to say Hershel to the Vikings, as now we can look back and see what we got that put us over the top. Glenn from GB was good, but it did not lead us to the promise land. Last years #1 to Cleveland, we will have to wait and see. When I look at meaningful, I look at what got us to the superbowl.

I would say any time you can get a starting quality receiver for a 6th rounder (either in the draft or via trade) you've done pretty well.

But when you think, we could have had Stephen Jackson....

guess you forgot we traded up to get canty, that assured we could get barber in the same round.

i would say that was a significant trade.

a 2 time probowl back and a solid 3-4 de who looks better and better every game

Steven Jackson hasn't exactly been tearing up the league either. He's had one very good year and the others have been Ok to solid. We're not talking LT-level or anything.

And if we trade Spears and luck into a dynamic player with the pick we acquire via the trade, then Dallas gets the better of the deal even more.

You just can't compare player to player. You have to compare what occurs with that player and all subsequent actions involving that player.

The only way it becomes a player-for-player comparison is if both players are cut from the team and no compensation is awarded for either.
