Where do you rank Brian Shottenheimer among NFL head coaches?

This is how much Jerry respects the importance of a head coach--he never even requested an interview with this guy:

The thing I love about Ben Johnson is none of that Kumbaya with La Fleur...I don't like you so I'm not even tryna shake your hand.

Meanwhile, we have Gomer Pyle as our coach...a wet bag of emotion and "feels".

He’s the perfect coach for Jerry but not 31 other teams. Whether he turns out to be good or not, he was setup to fail this season. Lets see how 2026 goes…..

This video is such an indictment on Eberflus...like how could they pretend they did due diligence and ended up with THAT DUDE?

Caleb - and whoever was in the background - basically said the team played with no emotion and had none last year. Eberfluke is a DUD.

This is getting worse and worse as we do the autopsy on this past season and the offseason before this....

Curious to hear views on this. I think he is dead last. Not a serious HC in this league.
honestly as an Offensive minded head coach i rank him in top 10. as a Game manager id say Top 15. as a talent evaluator of the defense Dead last. He put together a Great Offensive staff and i believe he would have put together a good defensive one had he been allowed to pick his own DC. so i cannot really evaluate him until after next year.

The NCAA has to stop allowing these guys to play 6 or 7 years in college
I don’t disagree. The NCAA has ruined college sports. Still not going to feel bad for Alabama and OSU. Indiana deserves a lot credit. They have had a great year.

They have for sure, but it's like a varsity high school team playing against 7th graders.

The average age for Indiana is slightly lower than the Packers.

What about the fact that he got as many wins as the previous coach got without Dak for 9 games? Impressive.
don't recall saying he was a world beater but I'm not judging based on a preconceived notion or a hate for Jerry. He did some things better than the previous superbowl winning coach. I'm happy to give him a little more rope.

Not sure I would rank him because any HC who doesn’t get to pick his own staff is a member of someone else’s staff. In this case, he’s Jerry’s offensive coordinator.

Like when they give a guy an “Assistant Head Coach” designation. We all know what that means. Still only calling plays but at least you get penciled in for a small speaking role at team meetings.

I'm not ready to join the angry torch and pitchfork crowd looking to vent my frustrations on the HC yet. He's an offensive coach and had a pretty good offense this year, including a running game. The defense of course was a nightmare, but you don't see any of his fingerprints on it, that was all Jerry, from the crap roster to the crap DC. Get a quality defense out there and finish figuring out the OT situation, then let's evaluate Schotty. Seems like we've had this same scenario over and over and over again, with different head coaches, but the same guy at GM.

Hard to say. How much control of the team do others typically get compared to what little control HC's in Dallas get? I'm not blaming Schotty for the hiring of everflus but Schotty didn't help the defense much if at all either. The offense looked good to great vs average or worse defenses but looked suspect vs good defenses. Not a fan of the offensive playcalling at times. He didn't help ST at all, they looked weak. I'd say overall he's in the bottom third of all head coaches.

Of course 99.9% of the issue is the Jones family. That said Shottenheimer would not be a HC anywhere but in Dallas.

Unknown but successful OCs get their shot at the head coaching position all the freaking time. Sometimes even the unsuccessful ones!
