so I'm arguing with a coworker who's telling me Romo shouldn't be in the same discussion as any greats including Eli Manning and Joe Flacco. I'm arguing that Romo is one of the all time greats. He's basing a lot of the argument on playoff wins/losses.
Someone please give me some ammo, I've read articles over the years that break down his accomplishments but I'm having a tough time finding anything now to back me up.
Are Joe Flacco and Eli really better than Romo???

I've come to put Romo and Big Ben in a tie for third best in the league right now. Pick which ever one happens to be healthy at the time.

Flacco and Manning aren't better than Romo. Their teammates have executed their assignments far more consistently over the years than Romo's though.

You lost me at great with Manning and Flacco. However you can try they have always had better coaches and Romo has done more in spite of that!!

Statistically they are both in the same category and they both have more playoff wins and SB wins

So are we making excuses for Romo or are we making a strong argument that shows his superiority? It's harder than you'd think. I just surprised myself.
Any stats that you look up on pro football reference that favor Romo also favor guys like Matt Schaub.

He's way up there even without the ring, etc. My rankings are based in part on the excitement that a QB generates and Romo is Roger-like in that regard...

Excitement? Well that's subjective and doesn't hold any weight in a debate. With all the Romo fans we have here I thought I'd be flooded with posts making a case for Romo.

they have the trump card of SB wins and whenever you show them the error of their ways, they will use that to defeat you.

It counts with me quite a bit and I don't think you can be objective in this sort of debate discussion anyway...

Don't fight with an idiot would be my advice

THIS

It's a tired argument that is useless to fight..at least when that person is firmly planted in the "ring" camp.
And even Romo would say to never devalue that ring.
If it's a first time debate, you have a shot if you just show him the career numbers combined with the in the clutch number in the 4th qtr and in comeback situations.
The argument is overwhelmingly in your favor then.

if playoff wins come up, don't forget to mention that:
  • Flacco got a "playoff win" with a 10 passer rating--worst n NFL history. He completed 4 passes (you read that right) and still had one of those picked (no Tds of course) Impossibly bad, yet they won the game.
  • Ben got one once with 1 TD and 2 picks and a 50ish passer rating...yet "he" won the game. lol
  • And whenever the Eli-always-plays-great in the playoffs come up, people need to recall the other three years...all one and done with horrific performances.
Ex.. year after they won the SB in 2007, he went back to the playoffs. Had 0 TD, 2 ints and 40 passer rating in a one and done. People forget this stuff.

Have to give all those guys credit for having a ring, but there needs to be perspective.

Just some trivia....with all the talk of those three's playoff greatness, Romo actually has the better playoff rating and better TD:Int ratio than any of them.

The one downside to Romo's return.

More threads wondering what his place in the QB world is.

I just can't figure out why this stuff is so important. Who is best/ better is not an argument that can clearly be won. It's mental masturbation.

No, I am stating while they have had really good HC's, Romo's never had that (except for Parcells for a spell). Romo has done more with less than anybody since Archie Manning as well.
