Where is our missing pass rush?

I've thought right along that our pass rush was going to be a big time problem this year.

While some may not consider Glover a major missing part but the guy was arguably our second or third best pass rusher--- and none of the starters have filled the void.

Neither Canty or Spears were big-time pass rushers in college and I doubt they will be in the pros-- neither has that "burst" needed to be a good pass rusher.

Ferguson may press the pocket a little but he isn't a "Glover" when it comes to rushing the passer.

Our pass rush on the early downs was just horrid... absolutely horrid.

We only had 37 sacks last year... I doubt we get that many this year.

After the Cowboys went up 10-0 it seems they started playing not to lose rather than to win. That alone can cause your pass rush to die.

We should have seen a few more sacks from our LBs, no?

I'm not as upset about Spears & Canty not getting the sacks, but Ellis & Ware should have been able to get to the QB more frequently.

Ware had a few pressures, but our 3-4 LBs should have produced a bit more.

Also, give the Jags O-line some ups - they protected their immobile QB very well.

One more thing - Sandwich did connect on more than one occassion under duress. He played extremely well.

Ware seemed to be dropping into coverage more than he was rushing the passer?:(

I feel ya mikey. What they were doing with Ware was a mystery to me. Where was our blitzing? Did we ever send Ware and Ellis at the same time? It's a potentially lethal combination, that we didn't use at all. When we did blitz, it was the same thing as always - everyone runs into each other and goes nowhere. So frustrating.

Appearently, when JAX went to 3 WR sets, Dallas used only one Safety, playing Row Williamns in a middle zone - and away from the line of scrimmage. That puts more pressure on the DL to play the run, which takes away their first step on pass-rush assignemnts. JAX basically figured out that if you show Dallas continulat 3-WR sets, then Dallas is forced out of its base defense, and into a apecialty package it cannot play very well.

LOL!

You know sometimes it looks like those old b&w "Keystone Cops" films with our guys just bouncing off of each other and falling all over the ground.

The sad thing is the last year in the playoffs the same defense played the Jags in the playoffs and the D had a monster sack game against the Jags OL.

Yep, we need adjustments here for sure. We now absolutely have all the pieces in place for a frightening defense. They need to be unleashed.

So follow the logic here...

Last year our 4-2-5 defense did very well against 3-wide sets.

So this year we stay with the 3-4 but change out a safety for a corner and we can't cover underneath routes nor can we rush the passer?

I freaking hate it. If you send that many guys, there has to be a hole somewhere. If you're Roy Williams, you do not - DO NOT!!!!! - get stonewalled by Mini-me. I'm sick of this game.

We were outcoached, outclassed, outsmarted, but we only lost by 7, and had the ball with at least a chance to tie. If we don't kick some Commander *** next week, I'm turning to the bottle.

I have never been on the GROZ movement, but Dallas can not rebuild a rebuilt defense. Cant fire all the players so I would fire Zimmer in a heart beat. He has to take much of the heat for the underwhelming performance.

I refuse to give the players a free pass, you cant fire all the players but you can fire the coach.

No, they did not.

The Cowboys continued to pass the ball. Bledsoe misses a wide open TO TWICE.

The pass rush would have been better playing with a big lead. But we had to defend the run because Fred Taylor and Maurice Drew can bounce to the outside.

We score points, we take the Jags out of their game.

If any of you are capable of re-watching the game go watch Demarcus Ware and see how many times he was held when he was all over the QB.

If you want to know what happened to our pass rush then its really simple just go check it out.

I'll do that tonight as soon as my best friend who was driving home from Ohio yesterday gives me my DVR back. :)

I wasn't talking about the offense, I was talking about the defense. Dallas went more into a prevent style defense rather than attacking the Jags offense.

The way I see it you don't change your defense based on the score. You play your defense period. If there is 30 seconds left and you are up 21 points, then you can play a prevent style to kill the clock, but otherwise you stick to your defense.

He's Roy Williams. He blows guys like that up for breakfast. Yes, it was a great play by Drew, but Roy needed to make a better one.

Well for those that think the game is won in the trenches it could just be that our guys aint good enough. Oh you can talk scheme all you want. But the bottomline is you're gonna have pass rushers that need to simply beat the man in front of them. Same with your O-linemen.

Yeah blitzing is all well and good and as other have pointed out, the whole purpose of that is to create a scenario where the blitzer doesnt have to beat anyone because he goes unblocked. That indeed as been an issue for years. When we finally do blitz it's almost like the blitzer purposely looks for a dood to engage with.

But cant we ever beat someone 1 on 1 from a base package with any regularity? Apparently not.
