Although there might be certain operational things that the remaining 2.7 million is earmarked for, I would love to see an extension on someone.

Miles is a priority, but I doubt we have enough to take care of him. Also, as I understand it, he may again be a RFA next year due to CBA factors. Given this, I would say lock Sensabaugh down! He only signed a 1 year deal right? This guy is a real find and seems to be a smart/good guy.

Am I off base?

Remember we're paying T.O.'s 9 million this season, too. After the season I would re-up Austin, Ratliff and Sensebaugh.

I know Ratliff is already signed to a deal, but he's outperforming it by leaps and bounds. The man needs paid. Austin is a must. And with the impact that Sensebaugh has had on the defense, he needs to be locked up long term. Even if it means cutting Hamlin loose.

That 2.7 is a pretty low number as these things go, unless I'm mistaken. The number should go way up at some point after the season as this year's dead money comes off and our free agents come off as well.

Of course, then you have to budget money for resigning the ones we want to resign. And of course of course nobody has any idea what's going to happen regarding the uncapped year.

So I guess what I'm saying is it really is way too early to talk about this sort of stuff with any confidence and that the 2.7 number is very likely not going to be the number we end up dealing with.

It all depends if 2010 is capped or not.

We have some contracts spiking next season and we'll really be up against the cap if a new CBA is reached and 2010 is capped.

If it's not capped, Austin will be an RFA, so there's no need to resign him now. Jerry also said that's he's not paying guys off one good year.

Normally I agree with that sentiment, but Miles has emerged this year, more than just had a good year. He's a guy with all of the physical tools and has just now finally seen the field enough to put it together. He's a guy we can't let go.

We won't have a choice with Sensebaugh. He's on a one year deal.

Adams somewhere explained it already (might be in the cap thread).

Because of uncapped 2010 there are some rule changes regarding incentives. If reached they will count against the 2009 cap and i think our cap space right now is pretty much the one we will need for them.

Until we are sure they won't be reached (Carperter's contract is one of those) i don't think we will give out new contracts etc..

There is also guranteed money for 2010 that in some cases (of which i am not exactly sure) will count against the last capped year (that is 2009).

So i am pretty much convinced that we will not spend a cent more.

If Ware waited until his contract was virtually up to get his raise, I think Ratliff can wait for his. Because if you're going to renegotiate a guys contract because his out plays it, then I'd like Hamlin to give us some money back for underplaying his.

Right, see how he finishes the season out and weigh up what kind of contract he's looking to agree on before running up with sacks of cash, falling at his feet and screaming PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US WE NEED YOU!!!!!!1111

Ya know, play it a little cool.

If there is an uncapped year then Sensabaugh will be a restricted free agent as well. So again no need to rush into signing him or Miles just yet. I for one am hoping for an upcapped year because it helps the Cowboys immensly with two important guys who normally would be unrestricted free agents. But I also need to see Miles do a little more over the rest of this year to really PAY him.
