All I know is that if he's all that, why isn't he starting at a safety spot (where play has been horrendous) or as one of the top 3 CBs (with OS out and Carr struggling). The kid appears to have done pretty well with TEs, but if he's not better than Church, Wilcox, Carr, or White right now, who's to say he's a starter at all.

FS FS FS

Way more important
There is a reason why the Pats paid their FS and let their all world CBs walk

Next step should be introducing Marinelli to the concept of a true 1T DT

baby steps

Wherever he plays best. If he is equally skilled at both positions, CB is where he should be as he provides much more value there.

Right now, I'd prefer to see him play wherever he's needed the most. This year, it happens to be at FS. If we choose to draft a FS next year, it's possible he'd best be utilized at corner. They really need to give him some continuity at one position, though. I'd like to see him replace Carr, perhaps by next year. Carr isn't even coming close to earning his exhorbitant salary at his CB spot, so the intention of replacing him might already be in the works. It wouldn't be far fetched to think that such an idea might be entertained by the Joneses.

Cornerback or Free Safety

the future may be tomorrow.

going up against Jimmy Graham, he'd be better off playing FS, which he may have to with Church hurting.

Though I like the idea of Carr dropping to FS and Jones moving up to CB later

Free Safety. Corey White has been more than capable at CB when he has been in the game.

I want him to play whatever position the coaches want him to play.

He played 97% of the snaps in the Pats game.

He play the same number of snaps as Wilcox and more than Church in the Giants game.

He got national recognition for his work against Gronk.

Carr has got to go this offseason, Mo should be locked up, and we should see how Jones develops as the season goes on. Hopefully he'd be ready to step in as the #2 corner.

Claiborne, Jones, and Scranick in his usual role would be a decent secondary, I think.

Claiborne still has issues. They avoid having him play zone because he gets confused. Offenses target him with pick plays because they know he will always be in man coverage. His tackling needs to be much better.

Back to Jones I've noticed that he has found a way to avoid the pick plays, at least when he is covering TEs. He gets right behind the TE almost as if the TE is his blocker and can still reach around to contest the throw.

I have never stated Claiborne is perfect, but looking at the upcoming CB FA and the CB class; I think it's best to get Mo locked up if he finishes the year playing at the level he's playing.

Jones simply hasn't done enough for anyone to feel confident he can be a #1 corner. Expectations right now should be him moving into the the nickel role or our #2

We hear he can do both positions, but there has to be one for which he's more suited. I don't care which position he plays, as long as he develops into a play maker, somebody who can create turnovers. I'm not yet sure about his physicality and tackling, but if he's a hitter, then FS is the spot.

I'm looking forward to seeing Jones make his first start at FS today, but on the other hand, I hate to lose him as a dedicated TE stopper, especially with Jimmy Graham coming to town.
