Where's the nasty?

Amen Brother! And don't forgot about the horse collar rule that began with the cowboys too. Putting all that aside, I don't think it makes a "soft team" by asking if someone is ok or helping someone up. It is called good sportsman ship and I for one think alot of teams lack that. Maybe just maybe that is one of the factors that makes us America's team.

I really don't like going back to the Jimmy Days but when he got here he said that we were through being the hunted now it's time to be the hunter.

Other teams in our division get more hyped to play us (hunters) than us to play them (hunted).

You have to have a culture change to make that happen.

Do you think that the Giants are looking forward to playing us moe than we are to them?

Hoss is the James Harrison of this thread. :D

The above was offered in a spirit of good natured humor.

Merry Christmas to all.

They probably are looking forward to it. I myself do not think they are that much better than us. I know a win is a win , but they fact still remains it came down to a field goal in the final seconds and our kicker actually made the first one( man I hate that Icing the kicker thing).

I agree that we are pretty even and whens that's the case intangibles and other things come into play. Mental toughness, home field advantage, who can whip their team into a frenzy all of those things play a factor in the outcome.

Not even close. We became America's Team because we were always "next years champions." America loves the underdog. Losing against the Packers then was like losing to the Patriots of the last decade.

America loved our "toughness" and our "spirit" and once we won, they loved us even more. America's Team was born. We were 180 degrees from anything "soft" or "considerate" when we stepped on the field.

Bob Lily throwing his helmet like 40 yards after a loss.... yep, that was consummate good sportsmanship on display. Not even close. Remember Haley? Try pushing him around and he would go for the throat... literally as well as figuratively. Ah, those were days. Those were the type of players (and those were the type of attitudes they brought) who made us champions.

Nope. It came down to blowing a 12 point lead late in the game and then missing a FG that would have tied the game... that is how we lost. Had we made the FG and tied it, and then lost the coin flip, the gnats would have gotten the ball first in OT and we were not going to stop them then either.

A huge difference that is more than simple schematics.

Well thank you for taking me to school Joe. There have been lots of players to throw a helmet..and lots of players to grab one another. I still don't feel like good sportsman ship is a bad thing.

Again..thanks for taking me to school Joe. I watched the game to0. I still do not think they are all that better than we are.

Apologies if I came off that way.

Just saying, it was more a series of defensive breakdowns that ate up a twelve point lead. The missed FG at the end, doesn't accurately convey the truth of what a million of us saw that day.

To be clear- I don't believe that the gnats are better than us at all. What I believe is that where the gnats beat us hands down, is attitude. They have a way of poking us in the eye with impunity. And what do we do? We apologize and offer up the other eye, just so there are no hard feelings.

look at what harbaugh has done with the 49ers.

that dline and oline is filled with nasty SOBS.

they've got a physical down hill running game.

linebackers that are athletic and knock your head.

and ball hawks in the secondary.

if you want an example of what i'd want from this team, it's more the 49ers than the steelers.

Yeah, that will fix this team. Out of morbid curiosity who is this mad dog on Green Bay or New Orleans?

Clay Matthews is not a particuarly nice individual on the football field.

lets take the "dirty" out of it

lets phrase it differently

who on this team imposes their will on the other team?

haley, irvin, emmitt, eric williams, larry allen all did it

when those teams came out to play they said "we will beat oyu up and you will like it"

i am glad i was lucky enough to be a cowboys fan back then because this team just does not have it and i pity the people who have become cowboy fans after the 90's because they just dont know what they missed

on this team there are a bunch of people who want to be best friends with players on the other teams

ware is a great player but too nice

ratliff is the only one who shows flashes of it at times

i would love to have a ray lewis, suh, or harrison on this team

i think you said what many folks are wanting out of a Cowboys Team... no more business type workers playing for a paycheck....true Football players who want to build a dynasty not just earn a paycheck

No need for apology, its all good. We all want this team to be better and to be a worthy contender every year. I do not know what that will take. Seems like we miss the boat every year in the draft or we draft where we really dont need it. By the time we get all that fixed then romo will be older and we will start that cycle all over again:(

guys a lot of this problem will be solved once we get bradie james out of the locker room. the guy is always smiling and talking that PR mess before game. i've never liked him and his corporate approach to sports. he seems too into himself and his plethora of commercials/endorsements he has in the dfw area.

Yes, Those were the days and I loved them. Yeah, they had the swagger and they were good! There were also alot of close games, mistakes were made and Troy had to retire early because of all the concussions he recieved. I'm glad you took dirty out of the wording. The boys may have been tougher back then, but they were not what I would have called dirty players:)

It's a sense of entitlement that come with being a Dallas Cowboy. They had a poll that said that Green Bay was now America's Team because more people like them. What they should have done is add the hate/love section of that poll to see who people are most interested in and that would have been Dallas.

I can just see the conversation now.
Vet: Hey rook, who many radio/tv shows and local endorsements do you have?

Rookie: Uh, none yet but if I perform on the field I may earn some.

Vet: What you mean earn, man this is America's Team you don't have to "perform" to get shows and endorsements just being on the team entitles you to that.

Rookie: Huh, I thought.....

Vet: Don't you know that we have 2nd string running backs and defensive backs with their own show?

Rookie: So, let me get this straight, players on other teams have be standouts and then things come to then but here you just have to stand.

Vet: Now you get it, so lets go out on that field and make great business decisions.

So I'm getting suspended for a game for rough play?

Exactly right. Let's see how we stack up on those other intangibles.

1. Mental toughness goes to the Giants.

2. Home field advantage goes to the Giants.

3. Who can whip their team into a frency...Giants (Coughlin, Tuck, Jacobs, etc)

4. Who has less quitters...Giants.

5. Who plays better when your whole season is on the line? Giants.

It pains me to say all of this, but currently, it's true. We still have to play the game though, because we have just as much talent on our team and anything can happen out there. It still comes down to any given Sunday... and I will be pulling for hard for the Boys! :starspin

Not sure if the word "nasty" is being confused with intense because you don't have to play "nasty" to play big, just play with intensity. Since Ware and Harrison are being compared here, do you honestly think Ware is any less accounted for/offensivley feared, than Harrison? Quite honestly, all you have to do is make the play and I don't care how clean or dirty you play it, the end result will be the same, it's when you don't make a play and they get to talk smack, is when it matters. Just make the play.

Ronnie Lott wasn't nasty, he played clean and hit hard. That's playing with intensity
Ronnie Lott would be flagged repeatedly in today's NFL. Ronnie Lott would also have known how to dial it down and would have still been the best Safety who ever played.

Look, I am all for playing with attitude, but the idea we need a James Harrison is patently wrong. We do not need a player who quite possibly is on steroids as many people surmise. We do not need a player drawing illegal contact penalties. If you think we do then don't ever whine about another penalty flag thrown on our players and call it dumb? No, it is by that definition "nasty" and needed. We certainly do not need a player who is in the NFL Commissioner's crosshairs, has already been suspended for a game and it will be more if he keeps it up.

I'll take smart football players like Lee and Ware over out of balance players like Harrison.
