Ron Leary. His loss caused a chain reaction that has resulted in our line being out of sync for the most part of the season. I understand why they didn't sign him, but we sure do miss his play.

This. It was never realistic to think we would or could sign him - he simply played too well to get him on a bargain contract. But we're missing his play badly so far.

I guess I'd say Leary. I don't think we miss any of those guys. I think we would still be 2-3 had we brought everyone back.

On the flip side which INCOMING free agent has actually HELPED...

Is it our goliath 1T in freshly retired Stephen Paea
WHAT about star cover corner since released Nolan Carroll
Behind door 3 we have our very our camp fodder safety Robert Blanton
Or what about new edge rusher, fresh off suspension, Damontre Moore
Or finally backup OL the much maligned and much travelled Byron Bell.

Now THAT'S a tough decision and one can only thank this front office for going all out to add veteran talent and take us to the next level.....

Let's hope 2018 brings just as much reward cos I foresee 16-0 if it does
Cooper was 1st signed in 2017 and he was fairly good last week.

Based on what we've seen so far this season, which FA departure has been the most costly? Who do we miss the most?
At this point in the season, DT McClain but he really faded later in the season.

Leary is the only true quality free agent they lost. McClain never put together a complete season and all the DBs were overrated.

The biggest FA Loss realistically was McCLain.
Retaining Leary wasn't an option realistically due to the financial commitment required.
Now McClain was because his deal with Washington wasn't too onerous.
I don't think losing Church was a bad move because he wasn't a long term answer and worth committing too much money in.
I think the loss of McClain could be chalked up to the commitment already in place for Crawford. It sickens me that we lost out on retaining McClain for that reason.

Yeah, given the caveat that keeping Leary wasn't a viable option at the asking price, I'd say McClain as well.

The signings of Thornton and Paea have both proven to be failures, and this team's run defense is pathetic. And it's a big reason why this defense is terrible. Can't stop the run or the pass. If they could at least make opposing teams struggle in one area, they might have a chance.

The defensive line is both undisciplined and outmatched against the run and that needs to get fixed in a hurry if they're to have any chance this season.

Ron Leary. And you can't measure that based just on what the offense has or hasn't done this year, because last year the offense also kept the defense off the field allowing fewer points (usually).

Doug Free. Collins would kill at guard if he could be playing there.

It's Barry Church. He was our leading tackler last year folks. I love Leary, but the tackling is pathetic right now!
Church was good against the run but not against the pass. I think Heath might actually be a little better against the pass as sad as that sounds.

With Lee and Hitchens missing games and the starting 1-tech having a bad knee, Church as a run defender has been missed. If not for those issues, I don't think we would notice his absense.

This is a question?

Ronald Leary. By a lot.

Exactly...........His loss not only hurt the offense but the defense as well. Our entire philosophy of running the ball to keep the defense off the field has failed miserably this year and Leary is the main reason why.

We should have paid the man his money and went cheap somewhere else.

Church. Leary.
How far have we fallen that we lament the loss of these two JAGs?
Blimey!
This used to be a proud teak with REAL stars.

Leary, Because I think Woods & Jones can be a good duo but the everyone on the OL has taken a step back. I do think they'll get back to being dominate again.

Leary, Free and Church in that order.........

I guess Free doesn't count since he wasn't a FA.

Love seeing how dedicated people are to the offensive side of the ball...

Weve been putting up points so offense hasnt been as garbage as everyone makes it seem

Toss up between McClain and Church... One of those cats really helped with being a cog stopping the run because this season we are a new york turnstile

McClain or Church.

At this point in the year last season Leary had just come off the bench, and the OL started slow last season, too.
