Which Lesson did Jerry Learn?

We had an up and coming young OC and an older very experienced HC.
Jerry let the young OC go and he became a fixture at his new team for many years and won a SB.

Fast forward a few years:

Same scenario. Only this time the older HC was let go.
The highly sought after OC got the HC gig and did very little in the ten years he coached before departing.

We are seeing Jerry facing this same scenario for a third time.
Which experience is gonna flavor his decision?

Bonus points to the Zoner who can put the names with my 2 examples.

The bad part was this was Sean Payton's offense that Garrett inherited. He then slowly morphed it into a stale, predictable offense which Romo had to bail him out time and time again.

If there is anything I can say about Romo, he helped prolong Garrett's tenure in Dallas - wasting years and years of talented and skilled players down the drain.

That's why Garrett was so cozy with Romo and Witten and gave them every chance to stack of their stats throughout the years.

"Thanks Romo - but here's two tickets to the World Series after this season is over."

Sean Payton who has done nothing since that SB, with one of the best QB”s ever.
Fans need to get over that.

Clapper of course was the other guy, and a wasted 10 years.
Actually wasted 7 years as he should have been let go after those three 8-8 seasons.
Sean Payton is still one of the best.

I mean that is kinda similar to this team's HC who won one SB with one of the best QBs ever and hasn't done nothing since.

Hopefully this HC can do what he once did with that other QB on his last team.

Once would be good enough for me. It would at least help me to get over the last quarter century.

He's in charge, that means it's ultimately on his shoulders. You can't give him all the blame and none of the credit. Pick one, is he accountable or not? He absolutely wants to win. He hasn't fired himself because he doesn't believe there is anyone that can do it better. Stop with the trash narrative he doesn't care, it's just stupid.
You need to step back and stop assigning thoughts and words to people they do not have. Your post is actually nonsensical as those are not my arguments. Your narrative is the trash one. BTW, there was no reason to stoop to insults. That is even more trashy.

I give him 100% credit for 3 super bowls. As the GM, he is 100% accountable for all of it.

Jerry has stated that he would have been fired from any other franchise. So, he does know he is not the best man for the job. He knows others can do it better, and has admitted it.

Jerry wants credit for winning. He pathetically desires credit, and that is of ultra importance to him.

He wasted a decade with an inept HC.

Jerry has been one of this team’s problems to overcome. He hasn’t done everything wrong, but he’s never been willing to understand how he can get credit for hiring good people and letting them do their jobs.

If we end up with a deep playoff run this year, Jerry will get and deserve some credit. But the guy has been a huge anchor on this team’s back for decades. He’s a genius at making money. But as a GM, he’s basically a football fan with GM authority. Who has had chance after chance after chance that all other GMs in the league never get.

Jerry’s like the rich guy at the Vegas craps table who is so rich, he will never run out of rolls of the dice. After 26 dice rolls, we have to hope he finally rolls boxcars.

You called my post BS and then expect that to facilitate a friendly conversation, come on man.

You also literally asked what proof I had that he helped in the good decisions. How on earth is that considered giving him credit? It doesn't, in fact it implies the opposite.

Sorry Bob, my prior response was not intended for you.

One thing Booger has not learned, the GM position in the NFL is a full time job. It is not a job of do what you want and delegate everything else.

What owners would tolerate anything but full time, and then some, devotion to the job of leaving no stones unturned to put the absolute best product on the field? That's their job. And it's not part-time. But then they don't all have their family members involved.

This Booger is the best owner or he wants to win more than any other owner is a laugher. What owner hired this GM? What owner admitted he should have fired this GM?

Because the team is doing better do not assume he has learned anything. He has gotten luckier.

He failed to trade up for Lynch and missed out on Cook and ended up with Prescott. According to his son, if Horn or Surtain had been there, Parsons isn't a Cowboy so that thorn in the side of the Vikings with 10 solo tackles is somewhere else.

Is this a trick question?

Obviously:
- Sean Payton and Parcells.
- Wade Phillips and Garrett.

What if Jerry had offered Sean Payton double the salary the Saints paid him to be Head Coach?
- Payton continued to live in Dallas in the off-season even after he took the Saints job.
- Would he have waited until Parcells contract was up?

Jerry once paid OL coach Hudson Houck more than some NFL Head Coaches were making at the time.

If I recall correctly, Jerry was paying Houck 2M or 3M per back in the late nineties or early 2000s.

I think for at least 1 season Houck was the highest paid assistant coach in the NFL including all Offensive and Defensive Coordinators.

No trick question, just curious what the zone thinks Jerry will do?

What did Payton do in Dallas to warrant him being considered the heir apparent to Parcells? He did not have as much light shining on him as Moore does this season.

You are correct sir, I just checked Google.
I guess it felt like 10 years.
Wait, what? Are we not talking about Garrett here?

Also, just for the record... Jerry didn't "let Payton go." Jerry couldn't have kept him without firing Parcells, and that wasn't going to happen.

OK, The OP here with an update and correction.
Jason Garrett was head coach of the Cowboys for 9.5 years total.
Sorry for the inaccurate info contained elsewhere in the thread.

But if you're happy with Jerry...[/QUOTE]

I am and always have been. I think the Cowboys are one of the best run teams in sports. Has JJ made mistakes? Of course. Every GM does.

To another poster:

We tried to get Dak signed. It was never about the annual dollars, but rather the length of the contract. We wanted 5 years, Dak wanted 4 so that he could get another bite at the apple sooner. Dak won the standoff. If he keeps playing like this, he might be looking at $55-60MM/yr after 4 years. He’ll only be 32.

I see your point...

But. Bill Parcells has never displayed loyalty, so we should have went with Peyton.

MM is not going to cut and run...
