Since it's that high point of the off season where we pretty much have no news and absolutely nothing happening in the world of football, it's time for another pointless poll!

Which Ohio State Linebacker drafted this year will have the best season?

A.J. Hawk: (6-1, 247), WOLB, Green Bay Packers - Drafted 1st Round, 5th Overall

Bobby Carpenter: (6-3, 255), SOLB, Dallas Cowboys - Drafted 1st Round, 18th Overall

Anthony Schlegel: (6-0, 251), MLB, New York Jets - Drafted 3rd Round, 76th Overall

I think Ware being on the other side tips the scale Carpenter's way.

Depends, what's your qualifier? Schlegel will probably have the most tackles. If you're talking sacks, probably Hawk. Carp probably won't be in position to rack up either numbers, but he should be very good too.

I went with Bobby Carpenter but that is only about a 25% homer vote. The fact that both of the other guys are going to teams with brand new first time HC's and will be playing on rebuilding teams constituted the other 75% of my choice.

Carpenter is coming in as one of the final pieces to a very good young defense and will be surrounded by top flight young players. The other two guys are going on teams who are trying to change their defensive philosophy without having the personnel for the new scheme (NY Jets) or simply have a very depleted talent pool on defense (the Packers). All things being equal I would have said Hawk, but things are NOT equal...Carpenter is in the best situation of the three.

OK, just a little homerism here. Carpenter isn't even necessarily the full time starter yet, there's no way he's expected to be better than a top 5 pick.

I said Carpenter because he's going to play OLB in a 3-4 scheme which is more likely to get him sacks than the 4-3 that Hawk will play OLB in or the ILB spot that Schlegel will play in NY's 3-4.

Plus, Carpenter has more talent around him than the other two guys. Being opposite Ware should give him plenty of one-on-one matchups, so if he comes along nicely, he very well might rack up a few sacks. Hawk will probably have the most tackles, but won't get the sack opportunities that Carpenter will have in the 3-4.

Schlegel might not even start in NY, so that could definately hurt his chances.

Let's face it... Carpenter has everything going his way with a stud opposite him, experience in everything he'll be asked to do as a rookie, and nobody in front of him to take his snaps. He really should have a good rookie season.

I'm just curious.

Is the purpose of this thread, being posted in a Cowboys forum of all places, to truly ascertain the independent thoughts of Cowboys fans?

Or is it a feel-good thread to convince fans that Carpenter may turn out to be great afterall?

My answer?

I have no idea.

I completely agree with you. LOL. It just came to me and I posted it. I didn't deeply think about it.

I went with Hawk because he will be the full-time starter from day-1 while Carpenter is likely to be a part-time player early in the season and will probably rotate out in nickle situations all year, Hawk won't in the Packers' 4-3 defense.

I went with Hawk. But, before it's all said 'n done, I think all three get pegged very quickly as "over-rated" coming out of college. I just don't like the little "buddy-system" of racking up value-points as the top two did playing opposite of one another in college. I lay odds on both of them being totally lost without the other, lets just hope they can find a new counterpart to play off of....in Carp's case, that would be Ware. Bottom-line, I just hope for solid, consistant play from the guy we got. I won't ask the world, because I just don't think he'd ever be capable of delivering any small piece of that. Why on earth did we draft this guy in the first round again? He doesn't even rate against the two guys we grabbed in 05's draft.

I think it will be Carpenter. I don't believe it will be Hawk because I don't believe GB will have the personel to be real good this year. I think Hawk will play but I don't know about impact. I don't think it will be Schlegel for the same reasons. Carpenter is in a defense that features LBs. He plays the glamour position in that defense. He's going to play with a lot of talent and he will not be the key guy that most offenses key on. That will be Ware. I think he's in an excellent position to be very effective. I think he's pretty intelligent so I think he will see playing time. He might be starting before the end of the season. I think he could have a very interesting season.
