The catch.

Although that was the moment that ended up cementing me as a Cowboys fan for life.

all those are bad...but one play thats always forgotten is Randy White fumbling a kickoff return in that 78 Super Bowl...the Steelers scored a TD right after the play...whats so bad about is White was on the KO return team even though he had a broken arm or wrist and hada cast on....

David

I had forgotten about that you SOB - thanks a lot.

Jackie Smith for me. I wanted to strangle that @$#%@@ when it happened. I see a lot of folks picking "The Catch" but I think ESPN has added to the distaste for that play more than anything. Ya it sucked, but that was on the 'way' to the Superbowl, Jackie dropped that gimme IN the Superbowl.

Stupid Moth@#%@$#@......

CBZ could have caught that pass with a bowl of pea salad in his right hand.

Well, it was still some doubt we would have beaten the Steelers even if Jackie Smith hadn't dropped that catch. The Steelers seem to have our number.

But the winner of the 49ers-Cowboys game was going to be the Super Bowl winner. And that game, officially, ended the Cowboys run as one of the best teams of the 80s.

What most fans don't realize is "The Catch" would have been just another amazing catch, though not historic, if the league still allowed break-away jerseys.

Drew Pearson was on his way to a touchdown, but the 49ers db (don't know his name) held on to him by the jersey and prevented a sure touchdown.

Then Danny White fumbled the ball the next play, sealing the deal for the 49ers. :bang2:

None of the above. It would be a toss up between these two.

The "Pass Interference" call on Benny Barnes against Lynn Swann in SB XIII when Swann clearly pushed Barnes to the ground and then tripped over him.

Dave Manders fumble recovery in SB V that was awarded to Baltimore even though they never had the ball.
:bang2: So true. Those are two very crucial plays that are overlooked a lot. I've seen the PI call on film, and the call was just ludicrous.

Being a Kid at the time "the catch" really had me upset!! After growing and watching and learning all about the cowboys I would have to say Super Bowl V because I felt so bad for Chuck Howley after having such a DOMINATING Performance.

Well all of those were before my time. I remember the three most recent SB victories and those were good times. Heart breaking moments experienced would have to be:

1) Romo's botched FG hold against Seattle
2) Crayton's dropped catch/stopping on route against Giants
3) Refs not calling anything in playoff loss to Panthers (Had to hear about that one from all of North and South Carolina)

I know, not really on the grand stages, but i was confident in our chances to advance in all three of those games and did some serious bragging...maybe i should keep my mouth shut and we may actually win a playoff game...

Wasn't born to see any of the plays listed by OP. But a heart breaking play for me had to be the botched field goal in Seattle.

1-Bart Starrs QB sneak in the NFC Championship game-"The Icebowl"
2-Jim Obriens field goal in Super Bowl V that won the game at the end.
3-Montana to Clark NFC Championship game-"The Catch"
4-Super Bowl XIII-Jackie Smith dropping a TD catch in the endzone.

Lot of heartbreaking moments there for the fans.
Given those choices, I'd go with Jackie Smith.

I was alive to watch Brett take himself out of the game last year.

THEN.... he took one for the team and started the next game... for the team... not for the consecutive streak or anything of personal gain:rolleyes:

1 and 2 were before my time. Out of 3 or 4, 4 still hurts like a ************. Excuse my french.

What's the latest on Favre? Any truth to the rumor that Favre regained his passion for the NFL after recently undergoing his 13th Vicodin I.V. drip treatment? Inquiring minds want to know.

Wow... you are sooooo amazing. Wowee.

YOU start a troll-like thread and talk about "pushing buttons"

You and Phoenix-Talon are neck and neck... 1 and 1a in the transparently obvious category.

Congrats!

MIck,

you might want to check out the black helicopters circling over your trailer too. I know you are just "calling it as you SEE it" but as usual you are wrong. There was no sinister meaning to the thread. I was reading some NFL history today that had me remembering things that I had forgotten and many of those things I was reading included the Cowboys. Nothing more and nothing less. Sorry you were offended by what you SEE as a "troll-like" thread when nothing of the sort was intended. Typical reaction of yours tho. You always look for a meaning that doesnt exist and make up one to suit your rant. Good job Stevie Wonder!

Smith dropping the TD, for sure. That play, quite honestly, turned out to be the difference in the score. Who knows if the outcome might have been different if he catches that.

So, yeah, that play may have very well cost us another Superbowl title.

The Catch, bad as it was, wouldn't have been as bad cause all it did was stop us from going to the Superbowl. There is no telling rather we'd actually have won it had we got there. The Smith drop we were actually in the SB, and in the game.
