A straight up trade taking into account age, talent, injury history... who would you really swap Romo for? I can only think of 4 sure fire guys I would want more than Tony- Palmer, Manning, Brady and Brees. That's it... am i being too much of a homer on this one?

Yes, you are being a homer.

Why would Cincy, Indy, NE & NO want to make this trade? If you were them, would you want to trade 2 superbowl winners and 2 who have taken them deep into the playoffs for a player who hasn't proven it for a full season yet? Straight up?

lol

Anyways the Quarterbacks you chose are probably the ones I would take too. Except Brees. I think Romo could end up being better than him with his mobility.

Also i'd throw in Vince Young and maaaaaaaaybe Matt Leinart as guys that could potentially be better.

he didn't say it was actually "do-able" - just where do you rate romo in regard to the other qb's *if* the possiblity came up.

god people on here are far too eager to slam someone vs. take a minute to understand.

this came up on another board when we were talking about *what if* we got offered the 1st overall pick thinking we could take quinn with it (ha ha on us from reality) and no one on my board would trade romo for the opportunity to pick quinn. at the time it was projected quinn would do much better and we'd never "windfall" into a potentially high 1st rounder.

but *who* would i really trade romo for "straight up" (since as you know so many teams are chomping at the bit to do that!) as a fantasty "what if" question (as intended i suppose)...

brady
palmer
likely peyton

and that would be about it.

romo has all the potential to be one of the superstars in the league. i'd put him in with leinert, young, cutler and so forth with the young guns that could have "it".

Yeah, after I posted, I re-read the the thread and will admit that I misinterpreted it. But still, it's still implying the that Romo is the 5th best QB in the NFL and I think it's way too early in his career to start ranking him.

Brees and Palmer, for sure. I'm not sure about Brady and Manning, simply because of their age. It'd be great to have them and they're obviously better QBs, but they're both on the wrong side of 30. What's the point of having a great QB if you can only have him for 3-4 years? Sure you might get a chance at 1 or 2 Super Bowls, but I like the promise that Romo has shown, and we could have that for much longer.

I guess it boils down to, do you want a "great" QB for 3-4 years or a "really good" QB for 8+ years. I'm inclined to take the latter given how hard it is to even find a "really good" QB.

The thing is about Peyton Manning is he still sucked in the playoffs last year.

He did everything he could to lose in the playoffs and his teammates around him wouldnt let him do it this time.

Also him winning the Superbowl MVP was a joke as well. He owes Jim Nance for that one.

Manning is a great QB but I still dont want him on my team in the post season.

He only had one bad playoff game last year and that was against Ravens, which is a great defensive team, in other playoff games, he was pretty decent, not great but he didn't do everything to lose them either.

As for trade, I'd trade for Manning, Palmer, Brady, and Brees.

Though he completed 30 of 38, he did have 3 INTs against KC. I remember watching that game and thinking he was having a bad game because of the turnovers. He didn't have a great game against the Patriots, but he was clutch in that last drive to take the lead.

I think the general consensus at the time was that he wasn't having a very good playoff run, but their defense was playing very well (holding KC and Baltimore to a combined 14 points).

Nah, it's not implying he's the 5th best QB... The "who would you trade him for" question necessarily makes you take into account the future of the QB you trade him for. He's not better than Favre or McNabb, but you wouldn't trade those guys for him because of injury issues and age.

Then as we stand right now, with Romo having played 10 games, I'd probably rank him in the Top 15 for sure, maybe Top 10. But he has the potential and youth to eventually be a Top 5-type QB.

Yeah, Colts' defense really stepped up for sure. In that KC game, his completion percentage was very good, so with three INTs out of eight incompletions, you have to wonder how his INTs came about. Since I forgot what attributed to his INTs, perhaps you could refresh my memory. Was his INTs due to poor throw or was it caused by bad route, great defensive plays?

In that case, since do-able isn't an option, I want a 27 year old Brett Favre.

My memory is nowhere near that good.

OP said to take into account age, etc.

I wouldn't trade Romo for anyone right now.

We don't know how good this kid can be but from what I saw, if he continues to mature, he can be as good as any QB in the league.

I guess that makes me a homer. :starspin
