Which roster bubble guys from last year end up getting edged out by guys added through the draft or free agency?

McCray may be one example of a guy who gets the axe. He made the team primarily based on his special teams ability, but as a safety he left a lot to be desired.

We just re-signed McCray...

I think Tanner or Dunbar and one or two of the receivers may be gone. I think Cole Beasley may be gone.

McCray's deal is not guaranteed.

He may still be cut but if he's cut its because one of these rookies played better than expected. They re-signed McCray for a reason.

McCray is on a 1yr 1.3 million tender. That's a lot to pay a STs guy.

McCray simply got his tender offer and signed it. None of it is guaranteed and he can easily be cut. If Hamilton shows promise and can play special teams, cutting McCray saves $1.3 million which is something I think the team will consider. Arkin, Tanner, and Vickers are the others I see most likely to be gone this year.

I think we will actually be pretty good at safety this year. We have thrown quite a few resources at safety including Matty J. last year. I think McCray becomes expendable for a couple of reasons:

1. He won't be good enough to play safety for us with the influx of talent and better health of players already on the roster.
2. I think you will see more linebackers playing on special teams than in years past based on a change in team philosophy.
3. His cap number.

I "second" that Dunbar and/or Tanner could likely be on the outside looking in at well.

I'd guess the new deal would be contingent on him making the team. He isn't the caliber of player to warrant a no-cut contract.

If I were working on the Cowboys' budget, I would want to move Cooks, McCrays, and Vickers jobs down to the third tier of $400 K players. Their money could be used to help pay first tier guys.

Interesting question

OFFENSE
* a RB will go, and I think it could be Tanner
* a WR will go to make room for Williams and Coale (who I think makes the team) - out goes beasley
* OLine? I can see Arkin going as Leary steps in (along with Fred, love that name :D)..if not him, then Kowalski

DEFENSE
* a CB could go and that would be Sterling Moore (I don't see McCray leaving)
* LB, Caleb McSurdy will be called McSurly when he gets cut

these are the guys that come to mind

The guys who I think don't make it this year:

Lance Dunbar (gets replaced by Kendal Lawrence)
Phil Tanner (gets replaced by Joe Randle)
David Arkin (gets replaced by Kevin Kowalski)
Cole Beasley (gets replaced by Danny Coale)
Lawrence Vickers (gets replaced by 4th TE, maybe Stewart)
Rob Calloway (I just don't think he makes it, wasn't impressive last year)
Danny McCray (Jakar Hamilton takes his spot)
