Jay Ajayi knee concerns overblown, if not fabricated
Posted by Mike Florio on April 21, 2015, 4:07 PM EDT

On Monday, CBS Sports reported that concerns emerged regarding the knee of Boise State running back [URL='http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/10361/jay-ajayi']Jay Ajayi
at the Scouting Combine medical re-check in Indianapolis. The only problem? Ajayi wasn’t there.

Agent Erik Burkhardt said on Twitter than Ajayi didn’t attend, and wasn’t asked to attend, the medical re-check. Which implies strongly that there were no concerns about Ajayi’s knee at the original Scouting Combine in February.

And for good reason. Ajayi’s knee injury happened four years ago. In 2014, he became the first player in FBS history to rush for more than 1,800 yards and to generate more than 500 receiving yards in one season.

If those reports originate from team visits, keep in mind that very few teams engage in extensive medical examinations during those sessions. Besides, Ajayi checked out at the Scouting Combine, where the poking and prodding nearly rises to the level of the nuances of an alien abduction. (I think I’ve used that one before. I’m too lazy to check.)

So why are reports emerging of concerns with Ajayi’s knee? Because one or more teams love Ajayi enough to trash him privately, in the hopes he’ll be available when they hope to land him in the draft.

That’s the most accurate rule of thumb about the pre-draft lying season. Teams that love a player will spread bad information about him so that he’ll fall to them. Teams that hate a player will pump him up, in the hopes that some sucker out there burns a pick on a player, pushing more viable candidates down the board.

[URL='http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/04/21/jay-ajayi-knee-concerns-overblown-if-not-fabricated/']No one is spreading misinformation to drop a player to the 4th round. If someone wanted him that bad they would have taken him yesterday. He's simply not as good as most here would like to believe. Very overrated rb, but likely the next in line now that the guy's with the best potential are gone. I personally like Cobb over Ajayi and think he'd be a steal in the 4th. Artis-Payne and Allen are good picks now, too. Allen seems most likely because he had him in for a visit.

I just can't believe Ajayi hasn't been picked......

Maybe there is some truth to the knee......

I seriously doubt we take a RB.....especially my guy. If they could pass on a starting RB in the 3rd for a backup tackle...then that tells me he is off their board.

Maybe NFL teams don't likE Big RBs that try to run like Reggie Bush.

Ive been a HUGE supporter of Ajayi but the fact he has fallen this far really scares me about that knee

I argue that it's more about his soft play style and less about the knee.

If he was as good as everyone thinks an NFL team would've had no problem spending a pick on him by now and getting their 4 years out of him.

I would take Ajayi in the 4th no doubt. Just need that knee to hold up 4 years. After that it would be another team's problem. But if not him we are definitely crossing our fingers on 1 of Mike Davis, Buck Allen, or Jeremy Langford. All 3 were considered 3rd/4th round guys so getting 1 at the end of the 4th is very good value.

At this point I think the rookie would be 3rd string behind Darren and joe. Joe Randle jerry has been talking up since last year. He really wasn't blowing smoke. When Randle got the chance he did well maybe him and Darren are our one two punch.

The way our line is built for the power game I like Mike Davis.
He protects the ball and is also good in pass protection.
Dirty yards is his middle name.

Langford, Allen or Davis. If we can get Davis in shape, then I am on board

None of the rest offer anything we don't already have

Can any of the remaining RBs beat out Ryan Williams, Randle, and scatback Dunbar? If not, we are not spending a draft pick, but rather, will sign an UDFA. Not my preference but a real possibility now, with next pick at bottom of 4th round.

Jay Ajayi has a significant medical flag with possibly a bone on bone knee condition there wasn't a need to recheck it at combine it is what it is. If he continues to slide I think teams have real concern whether he would last through rookie contract, unfortunate talented player.

David Cobb, Mike Davis or Thomas Rawls.

Pretty clear to me the team feels they don't need an every down back. If anything, they are looking to add a particular component to the running game. The guys above provide what the Boys are looking for.
