Which would you rather have? A team that is bad to mediocre that plays 100% all the time, or a godd team that gives lackluster effort?
I’ve thought about this quite a bit over the last couple of weeks. And having been a Cowboys fan since 1969, I have a pretty good historical persspective. I would rather have a bad team that gives 100% than a good team that plays half-as….hearted. I’ve seen some Cowboys teams come out to play and give up when there was no hope. I’ve seen some Cowboys teams that came out and played above their heads and got wins. I’ve seen some Cowboys teams come out and play above their head and get respectible losses. Even in the Campo years we had George Teague to knock TO off the Star. He had pride. Dat Ngyuen had a motor that never stopped, even on teams that weren’t going anywhere. Danny White played in the shadow of THE QB of the Cowboys and never left anything on the field. I can’t, and won’t, ever stop rooting for the Cowboys. But I’ve got to tell you, I’ve stopped feeling like my loyalty as a fan is being repaid in kind by some of the players on the field.
Why should I give my all as a fan when the players on my team are not giving their all on the field?
Why should I care about this team when some of those players don’t seem to give a crap?
I guess what dissapoints me most is the lack of pride and professionalism exhibited by some of the players. They are playing in the Big Room of Las Vegas, to use BP’s quote, and they’re playing like they don’t even deserve to be in the Casino.
I’ll piss and moan about the lackadaisical effort the last couple of weeks, but I’ll be right there watching the Detroit game, and hoping that we can get to the Super Bowl.
