Well, the Cowboys' brain trust have a pretty good idea of what they have in Romo. They had to see a lot of dedication and improvement from him prior to the draft so they could bypass Quinn.

I think teams would think twice however before bringing Moore onto their 53 man roster, since he wouldn't know their system and would be of no value this year to them regardless. Running a scout team's offense doesn't do much for learning the offensive scheme needed to contribute.

What's stupid is the author's ending of the article with a fragmentary sentence: 'just as little known Tony Romo from the Eastern Illinois Panthers did a few years ago' should have been written after a comma, as the end of the preceding sentence.

The other disagreement I have is that rookie QBs recently have made significant contributions to good teams and bad teams. Rookie Brady Tom helped his team, all the way to the big game. Rookie Roethlisberger helped his team almost all the way, and was playing that year with an injured thumb.
Last year, Leinart and Young helped bad teams get better.

Andrew Woodward would have helped me if he'd told me Brad Johnson's preseason QB rating.

Another consideration is that, if Moore safely reaches our practice squad, he's still available for any teams that suffer injuries during the season.
For example, if Kitna's back spasms persist, and Orlovsky's toe doesn't heal, the Lions could add him, at any time, correct?

Nothing! Except every FA QB from now on will be referred to as the next Tony Romo.

Besides, everyone knows BARTEL is the next Romo!

Wow. It's called a "sentence fragment" which is used to add emphasis. Did the line stand out more because it was on its own? Yes, yes it did.

Also, Tom Brady did not win the Superbowl his first year. That was his second season in the league.

And yes, you are correct, even if he were to make the PS, any team could still claim him.

Regardless of all this, however, it sounds as though Moore has been picked up by the Panthers, and Bartel will be signed to the PS. Looks like it was a tough decision to make after all, one that hopefully doesn't come back to bite them.

Maybe a small bite would be educational for them, and I won't say 'for us', because I strongly disapprove of their move.

same could be said about any other player on our team right now. i don't see how that even makes sense. he's still under contract and the cowboys want him to repeat his performance.

Is this a football message board or English class?

Some people have to be reminded from time to time.

If he had gotten a big huge gazillion dollar contract would you then like this article better?

Money has nothing to do with how the players came into the league in the same manner and could be going down similar paths in their first few years.

Maybe Matt Moore hangs on with the Panthers for a few seasons and then wins the starting job he would then still merit a comparison to Tony Romo.

While gramatically incorrect posts with spelling errors are well intentioned, it does diminish the respect the reader has for the writer. Whenever I read something from the Dallas Morning News that has errors in it, I just chuckle and mumble, "idiots..." Hell, if it wasn't for the edit button on CowboysZone most of my final posts would look like my 4 year old wrote them. ;)

It’s just another way people can make themselves feel superior to others.

Anyways...so why do you think Carolina would take up a roster spot for him?

A sentence fragment is a stylistic device used in writing to further emphasize a point. It isn't an error, it is done purposely.

That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's not a 'stylistic device', it's a grammatical error.

Wow, I guess all of my Professors for the last four years of school have been wrong eh? I'll be sure to let them know when I see them again.

And yes, obviously when not used properly it's a grammatical error. But when used properly, it is a point of emphasis.
