I ask this question bc it’s been a weird position. I got a guy that comes in mind that I kinda miss. He went to Kansas state and was 28 when we drafted him.

There was another fella who was solid. His initial were AH and I think he wore 42.

One of the other favorites is Phlibrut Gorzonkez

I liked T-Newman. Shame he couldn't stay healthy here then found the fountain of youth with the Bengals/Vikings.

Byron Jones was legally blind to the football, but played well at corner and also never complained or held out while on the 5th year option.

Can't think of any over the last 20 or so years, they were all too inconsistent, couldn't locate the ball

The fact that I had to stop and really think about it says a lot about our lack of defensive talent the last 25 years.

With that I will weigh in on the better CBs we’ve had…
  • Terrance Newman- great speed and coverage skill; developed over time into an outstanding corner as evidenced by his long career.
  • Jourdan Lewis - not the most physically gifted but solid as a rock, great in slot coverage and an excellent tackler.
  • Deron Bland - good not great. Does much better in man coverage and has great ball skills.
The “honorable mentions - Trevon Diggs- was good for about 3 years. Knee injuries and lazy habits hurt him. Chidobe Awuzie - a good not great corner. Just a sold player, not spectacular.

Newman was probably the most well rounded cb we’ve had. I also really liked awuzie way more than most.

Orlando scandrick and Jordan Lewis were probably under appreciated while here too.

I hear you and always respect your comments, I just wasn't ever sold on Newman, was highly regarded coming out of college, and he's the first player I've ever mention where a CB has "lost his confidence" after that they started saying that about a lot of players at CB. I'm like ok, have a short memory, get your confidence back!!

He wasn't a dud, but I just wasn't sold on him

You’re not wrong but there isn’t a ton of competition as it’s been a position of mediocrity on this team for years. Anthony Henry, Mike Jenkins, Brandon Carr, diggs, bland, etc. some good players but even with the up and down career Newman was probably the best imo…..although I may be missing someone from the early 2000s

You guys are missing the assignment! The OP said "this century"...meaning year 2000 and on.
I agree with T. Newman. Diggs, initially in his first years, and Jordan Lewis. I thought Orlando Scandrick was good. I like Bland. I hope he can stay away from the injury bug.

Love him, but he was a STer/nickel guy who played S one season.
Played for what 15 years? I'd say that's very significant. Rare air. He was a guy who you tell him where you need him, he'll do it. He never asked for clarity or more money. Dude loved ball. He played cb a bit, safety, linebacker, nickel, ST, anywhere. He was a datgum DAWG.

The old timer we had for a season or two, what was his name again? Aaron Glenn, there it is!!!
