Who do you think really called the plays today?

Kevin Seifert hinted on the ESPN chat that Garrett may have taken over playcalling by the final drive.

Play calling was great today. Was a little worried about how they opened the fourth quarter with a bunch of throws, but overall they mixed it up well.

Still have play clock issues though

I like Garrett calling the plays. Today better. Last year o line poor and wr too raw so offensive problems would have surfaced no mater who called plays.

The Callahan experiment was a step back now that we have some better execution within offense.

Frankly I don't care who was calling plays today. They were much less predictable by formation then they have been recently and it worked for a large part of the game.

My agenda driven theory, based upon nothing at all:

Last week at Valley Ranch in Jerry Jones' office:

Jerry Jones: Jason I called you in here to tell you this: I told the media that you would be back next year no matter what. As usual, I was just blabbering. The fact is that if you don't win this division, as bad as it has been, you will be fired before the Eagles get on the bus after the last game.

Jason Garrett: Well, you want to hold me accountable but you won't let me call the plays for an offense I designed. Let me call my own plays for the rest of the season, then, if we don't win the division, I'll resign and you won't have to explain anything to the media.

Jerry Jones: Well, I always just play the media and fans anyway, so doing something I said I wouldn't do is no big deal to me. But, fair enough. If you have to leave, one way or the other, I want to be sure you leave here knowing I gave you a fair chance to succeed. Especially with the great job I have done as GM this year. But one caveat, we'll tell the media that Callahan is still calling the plays so it won't look like I forced you to do something that didn't work. That wouldn't look good on my GM record. And, we'll have to move Wade to the press box so we can explain why you are talking directly to Tony.

Jason Garrett: I got it. May I go now?

Jerry Jones: Of course. Just one little thing, let's be sure and keep this agreement our little secret. No need to give the media and fans something else to unfairly attack me with. Especially since you and I both know what a great GM I am. Now, go on, get out and go to work, I've got to meet a some corporate CEOs. They are going to pay me millions of dollars to have the statue out at the stadium called the Proctor and Gamble Statue of Tom Landry and that ring of old players names called the Kia Cowboys Ring of Honor. Suckers.

You have to admit, it makes a ton of sense. There's obviously more to it than Wade Wilson reading defenses and something about "mechanics," whatever that is supposed to mean. Bill Callahan doesn't know how to read defenses all of a sudden?

Also, there are a couple of cryptic post-game quotes from Jerry and Jason that suggest Callahan now has a diminished role in playcalling if nothing else.

The fact that Romo was under center more often made the offense less predictable. In addition, having somewhat of a running game made play action work.
We passed with Romo under center more today than in the previous four games combined.

Here are all the passes when the play begins with Romo under center in the last six games, with the percentage of total dropbacks that were such plays:
vs. Was (25.8%)
6 of 8 35 yd 1 sack
at Phi (8.2%)
2 of 4 24 yd 1 sack
at Det (16.7%)
2 of 5 12 yd
vs. Min (11.1%)
3 of 6 38 yd
at NO (0%)
0 of 0
at NYG (38.0%)
12 of 16 136 yd 2 sacks

Good stuff. I've posted about this blatant black eye on the offense a couple of times.

umm idk. does it matter?

the offense scored 17 points....

The offense was slightly more consistent moving the ball today, but couldn't sustain drives. Neither could the Giants. Think maybe the conditions had something to do with that lack of consistency?

Yeah that's definitely a possibility. I just didnt see a noticeable difference between our offense this week and every other week besides the Denver game
