Who would you rather have at DC. Dom Capers or Mike Zimmer.

Capers. A real DC who is great with the 3-4 and knows how to pressure QBs and use good Blitzs and fake the blitz good. Attack defense!

Or

Mike Zimmer. And have the usual no pressure on QBs and the worse blitzes in the NFL . Bend dont break defense.

Doesnt matter man....Zimmy is still alive and breathing and will be back.

Hopefully we can continue to get defenders that dont have to be coached up, have natural talent and can overcome the shortcomings of their supposed teacher.

Uh, yeah those Texans sure have a powerhouse defense. Given up 407 points (3rd worst in the league), recorded 37 sacks, 7 ints, 9 fumble recoveries. Man, I can't wait to get me some of that!!

On the other hand we've given up 284 points, 37 sacks, 15 ints, 11 fumble recoveries.

Looks like a no brainer to me.....

But he is the head coach in Houston. He has no say in how the defense is run. Just like Parcells has no say here in Dallas. Only the defensive coordinator has a voice in what shemes and calls are run during a game. I don't even know why a head coach is needed at all. :D

Oh, I don't. That is why I put in the smiley face. I saw Wolverine use that excuse for Capers in another thread and thought it was quite comical.

The head coach dictates the style of the team. At least the good head coaches do. Parcells knows what kind of schemes were used and approved of them. If he wants to change that, he will. If he thinks that means bringing in a different coordinator, he will. So far he has kept Zimmer and I don't think that is a bad thing.

I wouldn't mind Capers here. Better personel than Houston. I remember the D in the first few years in Carolina while he was the HC. I also remember the D in Pittsburg before that and Jacksonville after.

How about Jim Bates (Packers/ formerly with Miami) ?

Does he know the 3-4? I thought he was strictly a 4-3 guy. I am sure he could learn the 3-4, but most of the talk is about finding a guy already familiar with the 3-4.

He is a 4-3 guy, but the Cowboys at this point are not too far gone to play either way. Its not like their front 7 has been doing it so long that it cant be reversed or their players arent talented enough to make the transition back to what they are familiar with.

I don't doubt that. I just think Parcells will stick with the 3-4.

alot of cowboy fans will not be happy until zimmer is out of dallas. dallas finished the season with the leagues 10th defense without henry for most of the second half of the season and a banged up linebacker corps. i congratulate zimmer and what he has done with the defense this year.

You can blame Zimmer, but you can also blame a bit of it on the fact that we dont have an edge presence at OLB besides Ware. Sorry.

Ellis had a pretty good year at DE, but the whole point of the 3-4 is to disguise where you are bringing the 4th and 5th guy from. Doesnt work too well when everyone knows Ware is the only one who is coming off the edge. We need BUrnett to step it up, or get someone else to play OLB
