Who else wants Joe A back?

I hate our special teams.....no offense to the handicapped, but our special teams is more like the special olympics. There is nothing special about our kick coverage or kick returns. Even McBriar had an off year. IMO, Folk was the lone bright spot of the entire Special Teams play. Austin did ok as a returner, but he didn't do anything really special this year.

I want us to put the Special back in Special Teams. I want Joe A back. I want his fire and passion. I want his technique and attention to detail. I want his Championship experience.

Who else is with me?

We already went the "Back to the Future" route with Houck. Joe's too busy with his bars/restaurants.

I repeat. A source I trust completely has "first hand knowledge" that Joe Avezzano will never work for Jerry Jones again.

First of all you are not going to get him back.
Second, while he was good, IMO, he was not that good. Consider the players he had playing on his special teams and then consider the ones on ours. Typically the special teams is made up of backup players from other positions. The teams he coached on most of the time were the deepest teams in football and so he had MUCH more talent to work with and thus looked better.
Not saying we don't need a new ST coach, but Joe is not coming back and even if he did he himself would not get our ST back to where they used to be.

Well, he became a much better coach once we traded for Fishback and Toast Patterson right before the deadline.

Why not? Does Avezzano have a bone to pick w/ Jerry or did he do something to upset jerry? Is it related to the Desperados?...

I don't know the answer to that. It very well could be though.

Didn't Joe get fired as the Desperados head coach?
I don't know for sure. I don't follow the arena leagues much.

I couldn't find anything about him being fired. He left the Desperados when he left the Cowboys for the Raiders. So, beats me.

Don't see how Joe A would improve our ST. While he was coaching them, many of our starters played ST particularly Darren Woodson. That's why the ST unit was so good under him.

We no longer use our starters on ST simply probably cause we reluctant to risk any of them getting injuried. So the younger, backup players handle ST so maybe they lack the necessary talent or some of them (never having played ST before in college) are still learning what to do.

Interesting.

After he was was not retained by Bill Parcells, I remember how angrily he responded to the transaction when some reporters got him on the record outside of Valley Ranch.

To paraphrase, after being queried by the Press on whether or not the decision not to keep him centered on the new regime wanting more low profile guys on the Coaching Staff, in that old crusty voice of his that everyone so fondly was used to, Joe Avezzano proudly proclaimed, "Well if that is the reason then to hell with it then" :D .

Not trying to make excuses for anything, but thanks to injuries, we became pretty thin with ST personnel. Killah hobbled in the 1st half of the season, as did Carp. Cricket, our big wedge-buster, was IR'd the second half, etc.

Ultimately-did these injuries have anything to do with our ST play? No-outside of that "Music City Miracle", Wade has always had consistent ST play with this previous teams. So point being that firing any coach won't be the answer to anything. Heck-we can bring in Bobby April, and the results will still be the same.

Still would like to see major improvements in our Special Teams. Folk's kickoff were short and that hurt the coverage alot as teams started possessions at the 35 or beyond. Might as well kicked it out of bounds instead of kicking it short.

Not to mention, I don't care to have Crayton back there. For the record, I don't care to have Newman back there. I think that area could easily be addressed though in the draft.

I doubt Bruce Read is going anywhere this year. No matter how dissatisfied we may be with him.
