Disagreeing with draft picks is par for the course for fans of all teams. There's certainly a lot of it here, every year. This year is no exception.

Basically, it boils down to, "What?! They took That Guy, when [fill in the blank] was available?! Crazy!"

Although I am underwhelmed buy our picks this year, I just don't see that argument applying to who we took versus who we didn't select.

True, in the first round, you can make an argument for why Dallas should have taken the guys selected after Tyler Smith -- Tyler Linderbaum, Jermaine Johnson, Devin Lloyd, and Devonte Wyatt. But we all were clamoring during the season for a physical presence at left guard, were we not? Well, Tyler Smith seems to fit that bill as well as or better than any of the players we could have chosen at any point later in the draft. Whether you believe Jerry that Tyler Smith was higher rated than Zion Johnson and Kenyon Green, or you just realize that the chance of another guard good enough to help us right away being available in a later round was slimmer than slim, and this pick was about the draft order forcing our hand... it's really hard to knock.

In the second round, I thought we'd jump at the chance to take Travis Jones because we also really need a big, disruptive defensive tackle to improve the run defense. But I can't complain about the choice to take Sam Williams, who looks like a much better answer to the hole at defensive end that none of us really believes would have been filled by Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler. And there was no one else taken after our pick at 56 who would obviously make a bigger impact that Williams, so I'm good here, too.

In the third round, are there any players chosen after our pick at 88 that you would absolutely pound on the table to take over Jalen Tolbert? Nick Cross and Kerby Joseph are intriguing safety prosects, and Jeremy Ruckert and Channing Tindall look good, too... but I don't know that anyone is arguing that they're better than Tolbert -- especially with our losses at WR and Gallup not guaranteed to be available for the start of the season.

In the fourth, I would have been happy with Cade Otton, or Neil Farrell, or even Pierre Strong -- but all those guys were gone before 129. We did need a tight end... Is it a slam dunk that Isaiah Likely, taken later in the round, is a better choice than Jake Ferguson? No. Is there anyone else at the bottom of the fourth that you think we just *had* to have?

The fifth round is a crap shoot, so I'm neither too upset by nor too jazzed about any of those guys. Our sixth rounder is a flyer, too, and, honestly, if we had packaged that pick to move up this year, or traded it for a higher pick next year, I would have been at least as happy, so I'm for sure not complaining about anyone we didn't pick with it.

Was there a trade up that would have made sense? We'll never know what the front office tried, or what it would have cost to obtain Player X. But considering all the things we needed to come away with, and the resources we had (picks in the bottom third of the rounds and no big value player to trade), I think we were better off standing pat and making the best of what was available.

Sure, that's not a ringing endorsement of our picks... I just think it's more about the downside of picking in the 24th slot in each round than "missing" on picks or passing up better guys.

I think they made the correct picks.

I was a big fan of Travis Jones and the TE Otton; however, Sam Williams is a perfect fit in the Dan Quinn defense and they would have needed to trade into round 3 to get Otton.

Ah, I love the guys who lament picking at the bottom of every round. They're telling you ahead of time they don't know the draft.

If the truth be told, we should have picked a QB in the 2nd. But once there was only one of the good prospects left, it should have prompted a pick. Everyone knew Howell wasnt going to be there a few picks later.

I would have taken Johnson myself
But in the end they got a good edge prospect anyway
I’m warming up to smith. I think he could be a really good guard if he buys in and puts in the work
I’m fine with him just being a good guard whether he can be a tackle or not
The draft is complicated but they have lots of info we don’t. Why did Johnson fall? It’s a position you rarely see huge falls for no reason
Also the order you fill spots has to be considered in order to fill as many as you can and that’s complicated
We’ve been a very solid drafting team so we know what we are doing in most cases. Like every team we’ve had our misses and those misses mainly came from trying to pick a type of player rather than just a good football player

I wouldn’t have picked a QB in the second but I would have got one as a UDFA and you could have gotten a really good player to develope

Dude is clueless. Two teams after us were ready to take him in the first round and we even had someone try to trade with us to snatch him.

How about we rip Mel for projecting a quarterback to go 7th overall and ends up being the third quarterback taken in the 3rd round. Dude is clueless and always has been
Nice gig if you can get it!

Hindsight is always 20/20, and I don't dislike the players we got at all.
I do believe our biggest need was interior OL, and obviously Edge and WR became needs during the offseason and were addressed.
Smith has tremendous upside (but also needs so much work to be nfl ready). His penalties concern me. Watching tape he really throws guys around with his arms/hands, and I feel he won't be able to get away with that in the NFL. I actually liked him as a potential 2nd rounder but figured he would be gone sooner. His upside is tremendous however, so I get the pick.

My idea was to get Linderbaum if he was there, then look at other power guys later. I like Smith as I mentioned, but know he wasn't going to be there in the 2nd. A guy I liked a lot was Sean Ryann. The Pack got him at 92.
I personally would have loved Linderbaum and Ryann. They remind me so much of TFred and Zach.
I also like Faalele and Kinnard, who went in the 4th and 5th rounds. Feel they could start as swing T then maybe start down the road (though both are likely RT, and we have Steele there)
So I would have loved to get Linderbaum in the 1st, Ryann in the 3rd, then moved up and got Kinnard in the 5th.
I like the Ferguson pick in the 4th. I was hoping for him of Charlie Kolar there.

I was surprised Perrion Winfrey lasted until the 4th, but I like Sam Williams as well, so not unhappy by any means.
I would say my main regret is that we unneccassarily created needs at Edge and WR, which we had to address on Day 2.
I would have personally preferred we kept Coop and Gregory and addressed our main needs, which IMO were the trenches on both siides of the ball.
I think the organization has earned the right on the draft to be trusted. FA on the other hand, is a seperate issue.

Ah, I love the guys who lament picking at the bottom of every round. They're telling you ahead of time they don't know the draft.

If you are picking closer to the bottom of every round that MIGHT mean you are getting past the one-and-done cycle Jerry has been swirling in since 1996.

Who needs that nonsense? Relevant and interesting is all we need. Just ask Jerry.
