Just curious of the sentiments of this board regarding NFL parity. Today's NFL has been successfully set up so that virtually any team has a legitimate shot of turning around their franchise through free agency. Building a team dynasty like we all so enjoyed under Landry is virtually impossible today (with the notable exception of what the Patriots have been able to do).
I miss the "old" NFL where players stuck with one team for their career - guys like Bob Lilly, Roger Staubach, Randy White come to mind. Can anyone here imagine any of these guys having worn a jersey of any other team?
Admittably, Cowboy fans were spoiled for years with the success of the Landry and Johnson era.
Perhaps if I were a lifelong Buc fan I would have different opinion. LOL. Seems as if the huge salaries and successes of the NFL has watered down the NFL in my always objective opinion. You best put together a winning franchise quickly as you will not be able to keep many of your starters on the roster for very long.
Thoughts?

Well first, i dont believe that players cant stick with there team there entire career,

look at Peyton, Harrison, Brett Favre, Ray Lewis.

Are there more guys looking for the big money yes, but there are still loyal players to a team, in which you can build a dynsty (see colts, and patriots)

I for one do like parity, because at least you know hey you wont see the same two superbowl teams over and over again. I like the fact that any given year, any team can win it. I get tired of playng the same team, same players, and beating them over and over again untill they rebuild through the draft. To be it brings more exciment and antipation, knowing your team could very well be in hte hunt next year.

ANd i dont buy into the, there's somuhc parity there are no top teams anymore. Cause thats BS. Colts, Pats, Even the Rams, the Sehawks, and the falcons have consintly made it to the playoffs this decade and won games. Just because you dont have the same team winning the SB year in and year out, doesnt mean you dont have the same good teams making it to the playoffs. Every year you can name at least 2-3 teams thats gonna make it to the playoffs.

Parity is just a way of giving every team a ritful chance at doing something other than sucking (though some just suck anyways i.e. lions)

3 of those guys career's are yet to be completed, and the 4th was technically an Atlanta Falcon originally.

Oh really? How about citing us one of the "1000" examples you refer to? I don't recall any specific posts regarding this topic. If I'm wrong I apologize.

For all others who actually have something to contribute to this thread, I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks guys.

As usual prophet you are blind to anything but what you WANT to see. There have been MANY threads and HUNDREDS of posts about how many of us hate parity over the last couple of years. Its not OUR fault that you cannot see.

Parity is good for the league, free agency is good for the players but bad for the fans. Can you imagine Staubach going to another team in his prime? Emmitt going to another team in his prime?

Well the obvious reason is that you don't have the same teams winning over and over and it forces teams to bond in order to stay on top. I think eventually we will begin to see coaches establish stronger relationships with the players to keep everyone together, granted there will always be some guy that thinks he's worth more money and he will be the cancer to leave. And there will always be guys that only play for money and we will know who they are as well...

Personally, I hate it, my brother. Teams should survive or fail without "help" from the league. I miss dynasties.:D

I think there is plenty of oportunity for dynasties in todays "parity" NFL. In fact, I think we have already seening one in New England. Parity hasn't killed that oportunity in my mind. Parity is just what it means...equal oportunity for the NFL teams. What it really comes down to is the people running the teams. Better run organizations are going to do better, and have ample oportunity to become a dynasty.

The salary cap is huge today, and is only getting bigger. Teams now have the oportunity to keep their core players. Heck, they even have the ability to keep their role players these days. Look at the cowboys, we haven't let any of our team go that we have really wanted, and we still are 12 million under the cap. Look at this years free agency. Very few players get away from teams that really want them. With the huge salary cap, and the different player tags, there is ample oportunity to keep players from leaving.

Todays NFL Parity is about running your organization properly. Good cap management and good drafting are the keys to the NFL. Free agency is not a way for a team to have a "legitimate shot of turning around their franchise". Its a way for teams to help shore up holes on their team. Please give an example of a team that used free agency to completely turn their team around. Take a look at the Commanders and see what it has done for them. No dynasy there.

Finally, if you want a dynasty, you have to have one key ingredient: A franchise quarterback. It really starts and stops right there. NFL parity has done nothing to diminish this.

Gee, I'm sorry if a little common courtesy riles you up so much. :laugh2:

Why not let the guy speak for himself? I've asked him for 1 example where he believes this topic has been posted "1000's of times". I guess you expect everyone to pour through the archives around here so there is no possibility of repeating something that may (or may not have) been posted many moons ago. :lmao: Sorry guy, The Prophet ain't doing it. That said, I will try to keep topics current.
Thanks for your input. Greatly appreciated. Make it a great day! :)
