Had the crew and friends over last night for a 70th birthday party, and the questions were raised.

The career question came to consensus fairly quickly. Lane Johnson was the answer. Might be first ballot HoF.

But the current best player was a lively debate. I made my case for CDL. Here is a list of names that was tossed into the pile and discussed, with comments I recall:

CD--My homer pick. Consistent performer besides a few drops, he must be planned for by opposing DC's.
Dak--Regular season stats monster, very little post-season success
Hurts--Post-season beast, regular season meh
Lane Johnson--getting old but a healthy Lane is a brick wall that stones everyone
Jaydon Daniels--promising up and coming QB, needs to show his rookie season was no fluke
Bobby Wagner--just consistently very good all-around
Zach Baun--Showed how much of a mistake the Saints made not giving him a chance
Tyron Smith--Down year for a top five guard in the league
Quinyon Mitchell--Needs a few more years? He earned his 1st team AP selection
George Pickens--Clearly an incredible talent when given the chance to shine, but does take off on occasion
Jordan Mailata--One of the best LT's in the game, will give up the occasional pressure to a small speed rusher-type player that can duck under his massive frame.
Brian Burns--D-line beast that can change a game.
Jaxson Dart--Next best QB in the NFCE?
Malik Nabors--Might be the most skilled WR but needs to stay healthy

Opinions? No consensus pick was chosen.

Lane Johnson was what I came up with pretty quickly when I read the thread title before opening the thread. I thought, "Okay, Eagles are the recent Super Bowl winners in the NFC EAST, so which Eagles player?"

The best career has to be Hurts. He’s a Super Bowl MVP QB AND finished 2nd in MVP also (before anyone tries that route).

The best player could be a few guys. Jalen Carter, CeeDee, Daniels, Barkley, Wagner…. It can change weekly.
Lane is going to the HoF, probably first ballot. I had to agree with that. Let's see if Hurts gets his second ring like Lane already has. Hurts does have time to build his case though. I can't deny success.

Hmmm.....I've never been to birthday parties where the main discussions have been NFCE. Well done, sir.
One of my cousin's husband is an egal's fan. We have very "brief" discussions about our individual teams. LOL

“regular season meh”? Name a CURRENT head coach/quarterback combination with more regular season wins than Sirianni/Hurts.

How many quarterbacks in the history of the NFL put together a resume like Jalen Hurts at 27 years old? Regular season or post season.

I just could never put an OLinemans career ahead of a Super Bowl MVP QBs.

Even if Hurts does nothing else he’s been a beast in two Super Bowls winning the MVP in one.

Personally, I’d rather have that than Johnson’s career.

Give Hurts our defense and watch those wins disappear. I think he's a good QB, his success speaks loudly, but I can't ignore the circumstances of his success. He has been blessed with very good to excellent rosters. His tendency to have bad stretches during the season puts a lot of pressure on the defense. Lucky for him, his team has a real NFL defense.

His name came up but too many dismissed him due to his position. But I am happy to have Aubrey as a weapon on this team.
I don’t agree with the response I’ll say, but I literally just saw this question on reddit in a general NFL forum about the best player in each division, and fans of other teams immediately brought up Jalen Carter as the person who should have been on there. I don’t think he’s even the best eagle but it was interesting you didn’t list him amongst your personal options

I think you guys ignored the truly best players: Dexter Lawrence, QWilliams, and Jalen Carter. True game changers and freaks of nature. Abdul Carter might be ready for an honorable mention. Tyler Smith and Mailata are up there. Might be a little early for QMitchell, but he's really up there also.

IMO, there's not a QB in this division that comes close to best in the division.

I do not deny that he's been great in both SB's, and that MVP is a nice piece for the fireplace. But Johnson will retire as one of the best tackles in NFL history, and at his position maybe the best. I'd rather be known as one of the best ever. It shows longtime commitment to excellence.

These aren't my personal options, this was the consensus among about 20 people. Carter's name did come up FWIW, and I personally believe him to be a true impact player.

Only one that comes close as to their career on Dallas is Lamb and Aubrey. However when comparing K', Elliot had a pretty good career, though lately seems he fell off.

I would not add Daniels to that list just it. Great 1st year, not so much his 2nd year.
Could add a few DL from Washington.
Barkley at Rb for longevity mostly.

Agree with the QB's, there are some many other excellent players in the NFCE.

I listed him in mine.

But he’s not done much since his rookie season.
