Who is currently the best player in the NFCE? Who currently has the best career?

Jalen Carter is probably the best talent in the division. Gotta be Hurts for career.

How big is the list of QBs that had their most success after age 33?
This is interesting.

Tom Brady at age 34+: Lots of accolades (AP, PB, etc.) 20-9 playoff record, including 4-2 in the Super Bowl.
Rich Gannon at age 34+: Four PB's, two 1st team AP's, 4-3 playoff record including SB loss
John Elway: Won both SB's at age 37 and 38, a few PB's as well.
Peyton Manning: Lost SB at age 37, won SB at age 39 (won his first SB at age 30, but most stats before he joined the Broncos).

That's about it. There are a few others that had a better latter career than early career, but no SB wins and poor playoff records. Not worth listing. In other words, in the 2000's, Tom Brady is the ultimate outlier. Unless you think Dak will become Brady, the history of QB's is against him.

Now take out the ones that had already gotten to a Super Bowl or already won one by 33 years old.

That just leaves Gannon, right? Who was on his 4th team.

Meanwhile, our 33 year old QB is currently tied for the worst playoff record ever for a QB with at least 5 playoff starts.

We're toast with Dak.

I think Terry McLaurin should be on the list. Very good player on some very bad teams. Don’t love the Commanders but the guy is a very good player who has spent most of his career in a crummy situation.

I enjoy off season posts like this. Thanks for creating it.

People forget how awesome Rich Gannon was for a few years. That’s an amazing list he is on.

Had the crew and friends over last night for a 70th birthday party, and the questions were raised.

The career question came to consensus fairly quickly. Lane Johnson was the answer. Might be first ballot HoF.

But the current best player was a lively debate. I made my case for CDL. Here is a list of names that was tossed into the pile and discussed, with comments I recall:

CD--My homer pick. Consistent performer besides a few drops, he must be planned for by opposing DC's.
Dak--Regular season stats monster, very little post-season success
Hurts--Post-season beast, regular season meh
Lane Johnson--getting old but a healthy Lane is a brick wall that stones everyone
Jaydon Daniels--promising up and coming QB, needs to show his rookie season was no fluke
Bobby Wagner--just consistently very good all-around
Zach Baun--Showed how much of a mistake the Saints made not giving him a chance
Tyron Smith--Down year for a top five guard in the league
Quinyon Mitchell--Needs a few more years? He earned his 1st team AP selection
George Pickens--Clearly an incredible talent when given the chance to shine, but does take off on occasion
Jordan Mailata--One of the best LT's in the game, will give up the occasional pressure to a small speed rusher-type player that can duck under his massive frame.
Brian Burns--D-line beast that can change a game.
Jaxson Dart--Next best QB in the NFCE?
Malik Nabors--Might be the most skilled WR but needs to stay healthy

Opinions? No consensus pick was chosen.
Aubrey and Sexy Dexy spring to mind before half of those guys tbh. Jalen Carter and Q Williams also deserve a mention somewhere towards the end of the list.

Bobby Wagner would be my pick. He is older than most and puts up insane production. He had over 150 tackles last year. That is 3 times more than what Kenneth Murray had which is our leading tackler.

Matthew Stafford won the SB a week after his 34th birthday. No question his last 4 years have been better than anything he did in Detroit

Warren Moon made 9 pro bowls, 7 of which came after he turned 34. His OPOY was also after he turned 34

These threads never fail to expose the veiled...

Don't confuse the importance of the position w/ rating the player. There's not a Qb in this division who makes the top 5 on his own team.

Cowboys: Tyler Smith, Tyler Booker, Lamb, Q, Beebe, and possibly Javonte. EZ might be headed that way. Overshown would be on the list if he could stay on the field.
