I don't know how much it would take to get Carr or another veteran, but Romo likes to run around and that increases his odds of injury.

I think someone will give Carr a chance as a starting QB. Raiders could certainly offer Carr a chance at being the starter.

It seems the Texans only want a 5th round pick for Carr and I think he is worth that as a backup. He has the coaches here that will allow him to develop the right way and maybe in a couple of seasons he will be ready to start. I really dont think carr is a bad qb but he got a bad rap in Houston. Make no mistake he is not perfect but he never had a line or a strong running game and he had alot of pressure on him as a #1 pick on an expansion team making a boatload of money. if he were to come here and learn as a backup and see the game then i think it will have a good effect on his game. Plus it gives the Cowboys a backup to romo who is young and a good amount of skills who has been a starter in this league. It also pus a little pressure on Romo to know that there is a capable back-up behind him if he doesnt perform.

A 5th for Carr is not bad. I'd consider it.

I think that bringing in Carr is the wrong message to send Romo. Not saying that competition is not good, but this is his job and he needs to know that. Bringing in the former #1 pick of the draft as the "back up" is not a stablizing move IMO.

But if you are David Carr I would think you would be looking at a chance as a starter not as a backup QB. You only play this game for so long and I doubt Carr wants to sit on our bench behind a QB younger than he is. If he has no choice and no one is willing to give him a shot as a starter I would love to have him as a backup but I don't see this happening.

I think bringing in a Carr is exactly the correct message for Romo. Get better cause if you don't, somebody will definatly be gaining on you.

Romo is not a sure thing. He is a 5th year QB who did some nice things last season and shows great promise. He is not a sure thing. It does not hurt to have a David Carr on the roster pushing Romo. It would be a great investment, IMO, for the Cowboys. At worst, he would be an experienced backup QB with talent. At best, somebody will need a QB in the next year or two. That 5th round investment could easily become a 2nd round return for a team who needed a QB. I'd do it if a deal were there to be made.

He's not an FA. If he's traded, he really has little say in the matter.

True. Without knowing his contract that could be the case however some contracts give the player some say so in where they go.

That's true. However, he's on his second contract and he didn't exactly light it up in Houston so I'd imagine he probably does not have a no trade clause in his current contract. Besides, he's gotta figure that if there are no starting jobs available, it might not be such a bad thing to come to Dallas where you are going against an undrafted FA with one year of experience and a brand new coaching staff with no ties to the current starter and will likely install a brand new offense. That is probably about as even a playing field as your going to get in the NFL. This may not be such a bad opportunity for a guy like Carr depending on what's out there in the way of starting. Heck, if I'm the Raiders, I'm all over this deal. If I'm Carr, I'm hoping it's anybody but the Raiders. Dallas might not be so bad.

I just feel there are teams out there with a better opportunity than Carr would get in Dallas. Vikes, Raiders, Tampa heck even the Bears could offer him a shot at the starting job. I have nothing against Carr and would not be upset if he ended up in Dallas I just do not see it happening.

I do not believe that the Raiders would be a better situation but the Vikes, Tampa and maybe the Bears could be. The question is, will these teams offer? I'd think that at least one or two of them would. I suppose we will see what happens.

You can't baby the QB....until he wins a championship, there should always be competition...never take away competition at any position. When Jimmy Johnson got here he used a supplemental first rounder on Steve Walsh...it bothered Aikman....so what? Suck it up and win the position. If Carr were to win the position, would that make us better? of course, if he won it.

Romo has had part of a good year, and he looks like our future, but you can't just mail it in at QB....there should be competition.

I agree we will find out soon enough as FA is not far down the road. Again if Carr ended up in Dallas I think that would be great but something tells me that is not going to happen, I think teams will over bid for him as well. The talk is of a 5th rd pick I don't think that happens I think someone will pay a higher price.

CFL All-Star QB Ricky Ray sounds like a great idea.

I keep hearing alot about this Ricky Ray guy. So, I took the time to research. Quite frankly, Bowman is on to something. This guy looks to be a real winner. Let's hope Wade gives him a good long look sometime soon. However, before we all get too excited about him, be advised he is under cotnract through the end of 07. That doesn't mean we should cease discussing, as this guy is still a pup.
Kudos to Bowman in discovering this guy and thinking outside the box. That is what we need more of around these parts.
Thoughts?
