you could see Parcells feverishly looking at the play print-out on the sideline to find out who missed that block

I would have flown out of the stadium in a helicopter and hid out in a cave somewhere if I were Witten after the game had ended

:lmao2: Actually it was Columbo missed the block. For some reason he blocked down towards the right, and this let Vincent come right through.

Colombo takes a full step to the inside and winds up behind the other interior linemen. Witten holds his footing and just reaches out to redirect the outside guy. If Colombo simply doesn't move and just stands there like a statue, then its a good kick.

blocking down is standard practice for kicks.

you never want to get beat to your own inside.

if the guy went inside witten and outside columbo than witten should have picked him up.

Yep, Columbo would have been better to not get out of his stance.

AdamJT13 explained it best in a previous thread . . .

Witten likely was the one who missed the block on Vincent's blocked field goal. Witten blocked the outside guy, and Colombo blocked the inside guy, leaving Vincent to come free right between them. Normally, you block down and make the outside guy take the longest route to the ball.

news report: The body of Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Marc Columbo was recovered from a New Jersey river tonight, with the words "Lookit, ya ****ed up!" inscribed on his bald head with a marker containing fingerprints that have been traced to that of head coach Bill Parcells. Parcells was picked up by police today after being spotted at an illegal dogfighting event, and declined comment.

Ok, just caught it on NFL network and slow mo'ed it on my DVR.

Looks like Vincent jumped in between Colombo on the inside and Witten on the outside and dived for the block. Witten did block/push his guy on the outside (Carlos Rogers), but I'm not sure who was responsible for Vincent in the gap...Witten or Colombo. Should Witten have blocked the inside guy (Vincent) and let Rogers go free on the outside or should Colombo have taken care of Vincent on that outside gap?

you block the guy on the inside...always. the theory is the outside guy has a longer way to go to get there. witten screwed up

Tough call, because Rogers is much faster than Vincent and Witten would know that being a TE. I think Rogers could have blocked it too if he had a clean shot.

Theory or not, both guys should have been blocked.

Sure, he's faster -- but all Witten has to do is get a hand on him to stop his momentum or disrupt his balance.

You're saying, that Witten should have blocked Vincent on the inside and got a hand on Rogers as well?

Tall order don't you think?

I would agree about inside guy theroy but it looked like Columbo didn't block anybody but one of our guys. Did I miss something?

this game was a fluke...

the only thing that was not as fluke was the penalties that the Dallas D put out... we moved the chains for the Commanders..

our 3rd down defense was piss poor... we are not aggresive on defense, and we hope to read and react not to give up the big play, but because of this almost 'scared' philosophy, we end up giving up the big play...
