Gentlemen, let's keep the dialogue civil. That said ...

Quality, top-notch wide-receivers have always been an important entity in the NFL. This year has not only accentuated that fact, but has shown that the position is a vital component in any given team's efforts to win.

Let's examine that from a closer perspective ...

Giants - there's be a lot said about the absence of Plaxico Buress and his contributions that could have made a significant difference in determining the outcome of the last 3 games the Giants lost - especially their game against the Eagles.

Commanders - uncertain why the Commanders crashed and burned this season, but in those games they did win, Santana Moss could have been MVP in their crusade to win.

Cowboys - Everyone knows the value of T.O., not to mention Roy E. Williams (a recent arrival from Detroit) ...not to mention the receiving skills of a certain tight end named Jason Witten. Still don't know what happened during that 44-6 romp in Philly; T.O. thought he should have received the ball more. If he had ...who knows.

Eagles - Curtis and rookie DeSean Jackson are doing a nice job in keeping the Eagles from being one-dimensional. But the Eagles lack a top-notch wide-receiver. Perhaps that will change in 2009 - you make the call ... http://allthingsphillysports.blogspot.com/2009/02/eagles-receiver-search-continues-housh.html

Everything said, I believe that if the Eagles obtain a top-notch wide-receiver; equivalent to a Jason Witten or Plaxico Buress, competition will elevate to another level; making strong defenses an absolute critical component on any of the NFC-East Beast teams.

Cowboy Fans ...how do you see it.

I think clearly the Giants were missing a WR threat. With us it was more a case of the O line and frankly just not playing well. Skins= who have they got that is worth a damn?
eagles got a lot out of the little guy but can he keep it up without too many stupid plays- and not get busted in half?

Eli needs a true # 1 to throw to. Amani Toomer is serviceable but aging. Kevin Boss is good in a pinch but hasn't yet shown the consistency you want at the TE (compare to JWit). What else do they have? Domineik Hixon? Manningham? Hrm. They desperately miss Plexiglass.

What can you say about the Skins? From Michael Westbrook to Brandon Lloyd. They sure know how to pick em. :D Santana Moss is extremely talented but every good WR has to have someone on the other side to compliment him. Right now the Skins don't have that. They give Chris Cooley a lot of face time but he too has yet to show that consistency that leads to reliable success in the passing game.

It's very interesting to hear an outsider's perspective on the situation in Big D. Everyone knows the value of TO? That would be everyone outside of our little message board. Half of the folks here still have no idea what they have at the #1 WR right now. It baffles me. The key here is coaching. Our OC lacks the basic ability to put his WRs in positions to make plays. RW11 still has yet to show me anything. He has a lot of work to do to make that trade seem as though we received fair value from it. I'm hopeful he will come through. Witten is a stud on the field plain and simple. He's Mr. Reliable at the TE position and a juggernaut once he gets the ball in his hands.

I agree about the lack of a top notch WR for your boys. The major positive here is that McNabb now has weapons at the WR position. For quite a few years there they had him trying to make the best out of throwing to virtual no names and guys that wouldn't have been starting on most teams. Jason Avant, Greg Lewis, Todd Pinkston, James Thrash... All decent WRs but nothing to hang your hat on. Thankfully for you, the management in Philly is competent and they recognized an area that needed to be improved. Now you look at guys like Kevin Curtis, Reggie Brown, and Desean Jackson.. The future at WR looks bright in Philly. You still need a true #1 but based upon recent moves by your management that isn't too far away. You already have two speed guys in Curtis and Jackson. You have your possession receiver in Brown. Add that #1 and WR is complete.

You're waaaayyyy off-base with that statement! Look around the CZ and see if Owens is "valued" (by a segment of the fanbase, anyway)!

This thread is a typical Talon thread.Basically in this one he is flashing that the eagles may get Housh and then be elite.Isnt this better suited for an Eagles board?

Most people who want TO cut aren't complaining about his play on the field. I think this is probably what PT was referring to.

Didn't read the thread and I'm sure you've already been called on this.

But what team were you following this year? D. Jackson was the best WR drafted this year.
Perhaps a little too frail to be a true #1, perhaps not. Either way he was huge for the birds this year.

He's the best eagle rookie WR I can remember. Certainly outproduced Quick and Barnett's rookie seasons.

You are wrong from the get-go.

You start off by saying top-notch WR have always been an important entity in the NFL.
Wrong, the forward pass is relatively new in the NFL and until the 1960s it and its receivers were secondary to the grind-it-out rushing game.

Just thot I'd point that out. And I will leave you off the hook further because my heart bleeds for someone who has NEVER known what it is for your team to win a Super Bowl.:)

WR is the most overrated position in the NFL and possibly sports in general.
