Who should be the Cowboys starting Defensive Tackle in 4-3 this season?

I like Thomas Johson or Chris Canty... overall: Thomas "Pepper" Johnson because of his intensity...

We as fans already know that Jason Fegurson starting at Nose Tackle..

I think he meant nickel. I say move Canty and Spears inside and use your OLB/DEs to rush the QB.

Oh, okay. In that case, I would move Spears and Ratcliff inside. No way would I leave Canty on the inside and negate his speed.

I'm guessing a line of Ware-Canty-Pepper/Ratliff or other player we sign or draft-Ellis when we go nickel

Nickel currently: Ware Canty Ellis Spears
(Based on if Spears does better with outside rush, swap him and Ellis if he doesn't improve)If we draft Lawson I would put him on the outside and have Canty, Ellis, and Spears rotate.

I liked what I saw from Jay Rat last season.. I'm with those that are talking about Spears as well.

In the Nickel...

There are a lot of options that we can do with the personnel that we're starting to accumulate.

Let's say that we draft Lawson to play SOLB opposite Ware. If that's the case, then when:

It is a sure passing down like say 3rd and 15 then we could move Spears and Canty inside to DT and bring Ware and Lawson up to DE. Then, we could have Burnett playing the LB spot for the nickel (he's very good in coverage).

That would be one option and it would create a lot of problems for the offense.

You could also keep in Fergy and bring in Pepper at the two DT positions and play Ware and Ellis at DE along with Burnett at LB. This would constitute a much bigger lineup than the first one that I mentioned and would play better against the run.

Of course there are any number of options that you could put the personnel together, depending on the situation and the opponent.

The one main thing is the SOLB. We really need a better player there than what we had last year and a stud there (Lawson, Carpenter) would go a long way towards making the Dallas D a dominant force.

when we do play the 4-3 it will mostly be the nickel, unless we play the 3-3-5..

anyway in that 4-3 set Marcus spears slides inside to tackle just like he did many times last year, he even played the nose a bunch last year, go back and watch the giants game in dallas you will see.....

otherwise, johnson and ratliff and canty can slide in there.
