I believe T.O.'s fate should be decided by Mr. Tony Romo.
I'm in the pro-T.O. camp. I do agree that he is a distraction. But I don't believe the negatives outweigh the positives he brings to the offense.
I know many others fall into this camp. And I know many others want him gone, because they think we're better off without him.
I don't think there are many stupid enough to think that Tony Romo is NOT our most important player. He is the face of the franchise, he is our leader, and if we do make it to the promised land, he will have taken us there. He is our guy.
And if "our guy" believes that T.O. should NOT be a Cowboy in 2009... I don't see how anybody could hope that Romo's wishes are not met and he is forced to work with #81. Romo is, after all, the biggest beneficiary to Owens' receiving brilliance. So if he concludes that the benefit isn't worth the "other stuff", who the hell am I to disagree?
Now, on the other hand...
If Romo DOES want Owens to return, due to his importance to the offense, how can the anti-T.O. crowd disagree? Tony knows better than any of us do how important T.O. is to the success of the offense... and as the follower of Jeff Garcia's and Donovan McNabb's footsteps as "QB of 81", he knows better than anyone how big (or small) a problem T.O. really is to the team.
Of course, Romo won't publicly say anything to reveal his true feelings. If he wants T.O. to stay, we MIGHT hear from Romo (and that's dependent on if he knows we're keeping him, otherwise he'd be undermining Jerry and Co.)... and if he wants T.O. gone, we won't hear a thing from Romo.
I truly hope Jerry and Co. at least consider Romo's feelings (behind closed doors, of course) about T.O. staying or going... because I think that in this case, the Cowboys would be best off if Romo got whatever it is he wanted in this case.
And how can anyone disagree with that?
