Holland.

Either Berger or McQuistan is getting axed on the final cut.

I think they were giving McQ this opportunity to start against the Vikings to save his roster spot because they were disappointed in him as a backup Right Tackle.

Now it's him vs Berger. Whichever one of them looks good in this game will save his job as a backup.

Proctor will still be around because he can also play Center.

Marten is the backup Right Guard (and can of course play Tackle in a pinch) and Doug Free will be the swing Tackle.

I say 10 offensive lineman.

Flo, Kosier, Gurode, Bigg, Colombo, Free, Holland, Proctor, Marten and either McQ or Berger.

I'll go out on a limb and say it won't be James Marten. Steve Martin has a better shot at starting than him.

I don't think Pat McQuistan's job has ever been in jeopardy.

At worst, Big Red can be our swing tackle on game day. McQ's likely been given the first crack at replacing Kyle Kosier because he's considered the sixth best lineman on the team.

James Marten was drafted as a tackle, utterly unimpressive there going by reports, switched to guard this camp where he was third string behind Joe Berger, and is now back at right tackle tonight because we want to look at Pat McQuistan, Berger and Cory Procter.

Doesn't come off making Marten look too good, does it?

I don't buy McQuistan being looked at as the 6th best OL on the team.

If they already feel that way then why start him tonight? Why not let the other guys who you don't have much faith in start tonight and get a load of playing time?

Marten has stunk. But I can't seem them cutting him just yet. I could see him getting a year in the system with Hudson Houck.

Who knows though...

All I know is that all of these guys had to be a little worried today that trade went down. That came out of nowhere, but Holland fits the mold of a road grading Guard which is what Houck wants. From what I remember of Holland I think he's a 'Nate Newton II'. Well, at least I hope he can be that, lol.

You know, it's pretty amazing to me how James Marten continues to fly under the radar with Cowboy fans. You'd think he was an undrafted free agent the way he is ignored.

This guy has been almost comically unimpressive since we blew a 3rd rounder on him (a high 3rd rounder too), yet it seems like nobody cares enough about him to talk about him/slam him.

I have read zero positive reports on Marten since we drafted him. Zero. He was such a bum at OT that they moved him to guard, and lo and behold, it turns out he wasn't even one of our top 5 guards! Davis, Kosier, Berger, McQuistan, and Procter (and now Holland!) are all ahead of him at that spot, so back to OT it is for Marten.

Seriously, what are we waiting for? Cut the bum and erase this horrendous waste of a 3rd round pick from our memories, please.

Most people are entirely too busy slamming UDFA'a for decent play to notice.

Cheap shot!

They didn't trade for a veteran guard because we had Kosier's replacement on the roster. Maybe they can trade McQ to Oakland.

I was reading Vela just now, and he believes this move is aimed at Berger and Marten. I agree.

Pat McQuistan starts and keeps the job, imo. Vela called McQuistan before anyone, and he is sticking to it. I agree with him.

I think it's possible, but not likely, considering this guy is a solid vet with far more experience. Either way, our depth is improved.

He and Davis would be two wild and crazy guards.:D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Proctor is under the gun. Realize he's our only backup C, but he wasn't that good in last 2 games in 07. Understand Berger got some snaps at C 2-3 weeks ago. Berger performed better then Marten but hate to give up on Marten so soon. Believe McQuistan wins LG job until Kosier returns but maybe Holland is coming as insurance but also future replacement for Kosier.

Good point on the experience. We both agree that it is a good move. However, I'm pulling for McQuistan. I think he can do it. I listened to Nate Newton on a podcast (DC Fanatic), and he stated that if McQuistan came in and did the job, Kosier would be a veteran backup. He stated how he (Newton) improved after moving from RT to guard.

I think McQuistan can do the job from a physical standpoint. It is just a matter of giving him the opportunity to prove his heart, toughness, and smarts. McQuistan is a strong guy. Newton just said he needs to stay a little lower at guard. He can really move. I would love to see him pulling and getting to the second level.

I'm pulling for the young player. I read a Scouts INC scouting report on the new player, and I don't think he could take Kosier's place. I think McQuistan can, but it is just my opinion.

Yeah. I agree. Proctor can't hold his ground on a bull rush. Vela doesn't like his play, either. Vela wrote about looking for Berger to get snaps at center in the game tonight.

I bet Dallas doesn't want Marten, Proctor, or Berger on the field when it all counts. I think this new guy is depth.
