The Cowboys didn't luck out on Prescott. They met with him at the Senior Bowl, coached the South against his North team, of which he was the MVP of the game. They also sent scouts/coaches to his workouts, twice I believe.

There were very few of us who were high on this pick on draft day. I kept telling people Dak has that "it" factor, the first I've seen since Romo. Most people were ticked off because we didn't trade for Lynch, but it was reported that even had we gotten Lynch, we still wanted Prescott if he dropped low enough. When we didn't get Lynch, they wanted Prescott even more.

This was not luck .. the Cowboys coaches and scouts were all high on Dak. I told people when we didn't make the trade for Lynch, we likely lucked out. I fully expected the Cowboys to draft Dak assuming another team didn't grab him too high. Once we got him, I said people would be surprised by his ability to play.

That said, as much as I expected of him, I did not expect this much, this soon.

Just remember they first wanted wentz, then tried to trade up for lynch, the Michigan St qb, and hackenberg, then finally settled for Dak.
So what! Every teams that drafts a QB in the 4th can name a QB they would have taken instead if available. Same with every other position.

I heard when the Patriots drafted Tom Brady in the sixth round they actually had other QB's rated higher than him on their board! o_O

I don't know whats all this fuss with Prescott.

I'll be impressed with him if he can learn Romo's patented spin move and throw that ball in the endzone for a TD.

If he does that then I'll know he's the real deal.

(sarcasm alert btw)

I am very excited about Dak, probably as much as anyone on this board. I don't feel the need to tap the brakes. I am genuinely excited about what he might become.

On the other hand ..... he could have easily has two interceptions tonight which would have made his stats look a lot worse. Stats lie.

Even if he had the two picks it wouldn't have really change my perspective. The most impressive thing about him so far is how mature and confident he seems to be. He sees the field well for a rookie and he hasn't panicked under pressure so far.

He has made decent decisions with the ball. He was less protective of the ball tonight than the first outing. He needs to clean that up a little or it will eventually turn into real turnovers.

I am not sure he will have the same consistent success against top tier regular season defenses, but I also wouldn't bet against him either. He will suffer adversity but I have hope that when he does he will persevere and adapt accordingly. He has shown indications that he will, which is promising.

The Cowboys put a lot of effort into scouting him. They deserve a lot of credit for finding him. I am not sure why he was viewed as a late 4th round prospect but he is outplaying the higher drafted QBs currently. Hopefully he will continue to learn and improve.

Finally, I would use Dak as the #2 and see what happens. He will progress faster getting second team reps and valuable experience. Being the #2 will also force him to stay sharp and be ready every week because he could have to start at any time due to injury.

I think it helped he stayed in college 5 years as well.

And playing in the SEC too had to of helped.

When I evaluated him I really liked his feet and ability to buy time.

I projected him as a solid backup QB.. He looks like he can be better than that.

The guy has done the impossible and has started whispers of potential QB controversy.

my original question was...who has been developing this guy on our team, cause there is no way he came from college a finished product.
