The Cowboys didn't luck out on Prescott. They met with him at the Senior Bowl, coached the South against his North team, of which he was the MVP of the game. They also sent scouts/coaches to his workouts, twice I believe.

There were very few of us who were high on this pick on draft day. I kept telling people Dak has that "it" factor, the first I've seen since Romo. Most people were ticked off because we didn't trade for Lynch, but it was reported that even had we gotten Lynch, we still wanted Prescott if he dropped low enough. When we didn't get Lynch, they wanted Prescott even more.

This was not luck .. the Cowboys coaches and scouts were all high on Dak. I told people when we didn't make the trade for Lynch, we likely lucked out. I fully expected the Cowboys to draft Dak assuming another team didn't grab him too high. Once we got him, I said people would be surprised by his ability to play.

That said, as much as I expected of him, I did not expect this much, this soon.

The posters with an agenda will never acknowledge the accuracy of of this post but it is spot on. No one talks about how lucky the Patriots were getting Brady in the 6th. It happens all the time. Players go too high or too low in the draft compared to their subsequent production. That's just part of the uncertainty of the draft. Unfortunately some posters will never give the Cowboys credit for doing anything right, but they bash them incessantly for every move that doesn't work out.

Incidentally, the trade for Brice Butler keeps looking better and better.

gruden qb school, taught him a few key things.
I dont think our coaches did much developing, but someone gets credit for wanting and drafting him.

I heard Dez Bryant also texted the coaches before the draft and told them to take Dak Prescott. Many of the mock drafts I saw had Dak Prescott being drafted by the Cowboys.

31 other teams with 'real GMs' passed on Prescott. Funny how that happens sometimes.
From the very limited data we have right now, not only is Dak the best QB of the 2016 draft so far, but he has flashed the potential to be the top pick of the 2016 draft.

Dak could already start for more than a few teams right now. Dak was better than any QB Miami had tonight.

Two of the big knocks on him was that we didn't play under center and that he didn't throw the ball down the field. He's played under center a lot these first two games. If you didn't know his background, you would never know that he didn't play under center in college. And he's definitely answering the question of whether he can throw the ball down field.

Tony Romo.

Romo told Jerry he'd be glad to develop his successor if Dallas brings in a talented understudy.

Dak and Showers follow Romo around like puppy dogs. Good for them.

This ....... Romo promised he would tutor the next great QB ...... and you can tell by their sideline antics that Romo really likes this kid.

He is telling him what to be prepared for ...... which is invaluable for a young QB.

I feel an immense sense of relief now. There's no denying he has "it". So calm, so smooth, so accurate. He'll throw some frustrating throws I'm sure. And go through the occasional growing pain.

But he can continue to learn and develop for several years in this system and come out guns blazing when needed.

On that first would be INT, it looked like he was relying too much on timing and not sight/recognition. That is a GOOD thing. He's learning the system and trusting it. But it will take time to home the skill of combining recognition and timing.

Why was our FO so confident that he would make it to late in the 4th? Only hole in the theory I see. Love Dak's play; he looks likes a find.

Just remember they first wanted wentz, then tried to trade up for lynch, the Michigan St qb, and hackenberg, then finally settled for Dak.
Cook, not Hackenberg. Hackenberg didn't even appear on the leaked board.

I think they wanted Goff first according to the draft board as he was higher ranked than Wentz. Sometimes you get lucky but it was what you do with the luck that makes you great.

I thought they should have made the trade for Lynch and still take Dak in the 4th.

Also saying they liked Goff is one thing, drafting him is another. The team did their due diligence on every top player, you never now how the draft will break. But saying you will take Goff at 4 because the others you like are gone is different than saying you think Dak is a 2nd round pick but you think you can get him the 4th - and you are happy when the cards fall that way.
