What are you talking about? Are you saying they made a mistake drafting him in the 4th and they should have taken him sooner?
Oh, yes just if we were that gung ho about selecting him, why wait until the last pick of the 4th round? We gave plenty of teams the chance to take their shot at him, etc. Kinda punches a hole in our narrative...Either way, glad he's a Cowboy!

I think it's a combo of the coaches and Dak.

Obviously the coaches are coaching him up but you can also tell that he's taking the extra time to prepare like a pro.

Kind of reminds me when Jimmy wanted a LB, lost out on Francis, lost out Lathon, so settled for Emmitt.
Not saying it will be a comparison by any means, but it reminds me of it.
But I bet this happens quite often.

You're right. Sometimes it takes a little luck and misfortune (Kellen Moore's broken ankle).

seriously folks, did our coaches develop this guy? did he come from Miss St this polished? Someone on our team has done some serious work with him, its unbelivable that a rookie can come in here and look like this. your thoughts

This is an awesome question. Some of this is just internal to the player and his willingness to learn and grow. Good, potentially great, players are the more than the sum of their parts. He's young and already lost what many of us hold most dear in life...our mother. This can break or make a man. Perhaps he's doing this to prove that his mother's life was not in vain. That's too romantic of a notion. So perhaps he was just raised to continually improve.

However, to the heart of the question as I read it, who found him? Which scout? Who advocated for him in the war room during the draft? If he continues, will the league start to believe that players like him, R. Wilson, aren't just outliers but perhaps the standard for success.

Has the front office finally started to look in corners and other areas long neglected to find those players that just win. I wonder what happens if he's surrounded by a speedy WR, some young TEs that just open up the middle of the field and they keep a good line in front of him.

But mostly I wonder...who was the first guy (or gal) that said..."He's good...and should be a Cowboy..." Let's buy them a round or two and simply say..."thanks." Not for a player that could be a superstar...too early for that....but for giving us hope again...

Ha, I just got done saying the same thing in the "epic draft" thread a couple minutes ago.

What do the following great QBs all have in common?
Joe Montana (Joe Cool)
Peyton Manning
John Elway
Brett Farve
Johnny Unitas
Terry Bradshaw
Troy Aikman
Dan Marino
They all have the same special Brain Type ESTP/FEIR that makes them great football QBs. They have the ability to process information, see the field and deliver the ball under pressure better than other Brain type. They were all poised leaders of their teams. See the below link that I wrote to the zone after Dak was drafted and why I think he has the ESTP/FIER Brain type.

I was so excited when they picked Dak. I tweeted with Broaddus, Brugler and the draft show before the draft and told them I thought Dak had the special ESTP brain type. I followed Brain types for years and I've read a few books on it by Niednagel. Dak was the only QB of this year class that looked like an ESTP to me.

Another interesting article that talks about Payton Manning/Ryan Leaf and their brain types

Our coaches haven't developed a guy in 25 years.

You'll have to give credit to whoever made the choice. Cowboys liked him a lot even after the DUI accusations which scared many away from the early rounds, though 4th round was certainly Pre-Draft value from a 2nd or 3rd round choice.

Dak was said on this Board to be getting 1st round peeks from the Cowboys before the falsely accused drinking/driving incident. Honestly thought he was a 2nd Tier QB after the big three without the DUI Charge.

I hate to overreact, and I'm not sure who's responsible for Dak Prescott, and I'm not saying he WILL be the future but this is what I've seen so far. I see a dominant QB. A QB who attacks ferociously every time he has the ball. He's constantly looking at single coverage and he gets the ball out quick. At this point, he's dominant. By the time the regular season gets here, he may not be dominant, I'm just telling you what I see now.
I also want to add that I see someone who can overcome a drive stalling penalty and keep pushing to the end zone. I believe that we have scored on every offensive drive he has lead with the exception of one drive in LA. I see a kid that can overcome adversity in a drive and still get a FG out of it. 3rd and long last night, all the receivers were covered so he ran for a chunk of yards and Bailey came in and kicked a FG. He didn't force anything, no TO, no risky play, he did the safe thing and got points.

I see a kid who just gets points any way he can.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are many of those in the Cowboys organization who are contributors in terms of Dak's success. The Cowboys have long been deficient, talent-wise, in their young QB development. I'm certain everyone who has anything remotely to do with the QB development within the organization is bending over backwards to make both of our young backups a smashing success. It seems their best efforts haven't been in vain. I'm quite sure the much-maligned Wade Wilson, Coach Garrett, Scott Linehan and Tony Romo are among those directly responsible for Dak's surprisingly rapid development up to this point in time. Hopefully, he will continue to progress in grand fashion.
