He's capable of it. Whether or not he can do it is another question. How about a trivia question?

Every Cowboys fan knows the Super Bowl MVP trivia, but not many will know this question.

How many times has a Dallas Cowboy been the NFL MVP or Player of the Year?

Great question, didn't Emmitt win it one year ? When he broke the TD record I think. Maybe I'm wrong.

BTW- Ware didn't win defensive MVP because our team and more specifically our defense finished middle of the pack.
I don't agree with it, but that's the reality. The teams success is taken into account in any MVP award.
Especially when we're talking about Cowboy players. Cowboy players can't win these type awards unless there's no debate. It has to be a clear cut win.

I believe our D finished 8th and we led the NFL in sacks. He deserved the award and think he would have had a better chance without the anti-Cowboys voters out there. These writers were/are fans too.

Nobody can make a positive post without the predictable "lets win a playoff game before we worry about that" response.

I swear I do not understand why people come here if they do not want to talk about anything until we win a playoff game.

We cannot win a playoff game for a few more months ..... if you do not want to talk about anything until then ..... see ya in 2010.

Good grief.

As far as the original subject ...... No, I think there would be to much bias against Romo this year for him to win it unless it was not even close.

I've been thinking the exact same thing lately. What the hell is the point of a message board if every time someone gets excited about the team, a wet blanket has to come into the thread and remind us that we have to win in December and the playoffs.

Well, no crap. That's a given. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I will just say this, if Demarcus can do what he did last year and not get defensive MVP then I don't know what Romo would have to do to get MVP!!!!

If I had a vote I would have selected Ware but I can't say Harrison did not deserve it as much as Ware. Ware had more sacks 20 to 16 but Harrison had more forced fumbles and Int and more overall tackles.

DeMarcus Ware was second and Baltimore safety Ed Reed frankly I think a good case could be made for Reed as well as Ware.

He'll have a hard time topping what he did in numbers wise 07 due to the balance on offense (emphasis on the run). The team was also 13-3 and he did not win it.

I think he has a shot. If our running game is as good as I'm expecting - he will be given some nice looks.

You're preaching to the choir.

But our defense did finish about 20th in points allowed and the team did finished 9-7 and out of the play-offs.

That's more than enough ammo for the anti-Cowboy haters out there to justify snubbing a Cowboy.

Even if he did record an extremely rare 20 sack season while excelling in all other aspects of the game. I.E. Run support and Pass coverage.

Lets call a spade a spade. There's not a GM outside of Pittsburgh who'd take Harrison over Ware or even tell you Harrison had a superior 2008 season.

Cowboy players need clear cut wins to earn an award like that. There can't be any legit arguement. If there is, it will go the other way every time!

No surprise we only have one MVP in our 50 year history.

All the pressure is on him and I think he has accepted the challenge. I like the fact that now teams don't know where were going to throw the ball and also a bit more conservative play calling such as hitting the fullback out of the backfield etc. Nothing against TO, hes a wonderful talent and player but regardless if he causing trouble or not the media is always going to be on him and its not conducive to winning. Im not saying Im going to be right but I think Romo wins the MVP this year. Anyone else agree?

Yes....mark me down as a big FAT YES!:)

Even if he deserved it I doubt he'd get it due to the media's hate for the Cowboys.

OMT- I know there have been only a handful of 20 sack season ever record. I'm certain even a one trick pony from any other team would still net a defensive MVP if he pulled it off.

Anyone know just how many times 20 sacks have been recorded in a season since they started tracking them.

I wonder if even one of those guys failed to win defensive MVP that year.:bang2:

You may be right. I would've guessed you could count them one one hand.

Anybody with superior internet search skills than I care to see if any of those guys didn't win MVP!

I don't think that Strahan did the year he broke it did he? I think that Gastineau had 20 as well and didn't win it.

Not quite.

Before the NFL MVP award was standardized by the AP vote, there were various different organizations that awarded the title MVP.

Don Meredith won one version in '66 and Staubach won one in 1971.

Michael Strahan holds the unofficial record at 22.5 sacks in 2001. He was the NFL DPOY.

Mark Gastineau is 2nd with 22.0 sacks in 1984. He was NOT the NFL DPOY. It was won by Kenny Easley of the Seahawks that year.

Reggie White had 21 sacks in 1987. He was the NFL DPOY.

Chris Doleman had 21 sacks in 1989. He was NOT the NFL DPOY. It was won by his linemate Keith Millard.

Then DeMarcus Ware last year.

BTW, since creating the NFL DPOT Award in 1971 only one Dallas Cowboy has won it. Harvey Martin in 1977. Before sacks were an official record and he did have over 20, but it is disputed how many he actually had. I say it was 23 in 14 games.

Those were the Bert Bell Awards they won.
