It just astounds me. He could barely walk his last season or two for Dallas. The guy I saw tonight was real good. Heck, I might even take Newman over Mo to be honest. Anticipated well, speed still there and was playing with confidence. Now that DL for Cincy might be best in football and that helps. But can someone please explain to me why Dallas Cowboy players become frail mentally and physically while in Big D.

1. He didn't look that good in some plays, which is understandable with him being 36.

2. Over Morris? No.

3. Yes, a quality NFL defensive line helps.

... and plus on the play I saw, the ball was thown right to him. Even Mo "Glass" Claiborne could not have messed that up.

He stopped on a play, the WR completely blew by him, but Palmers pass was so far off, it went incomplete. Not good for TNew.
Another play he was beat for a TD, ball just a bit overthrown. He had decent coverage, but I'll give it a tie on that play.
The INT was a good play, but also looked as if he was in the right place and the right time. But he deserves the credit for the pick.

Overall since he went to the Bengals, he has played well. He should have played like that for Dallas his last few years. He may still be around if he had.

But at this point I would still take Mo, only because he is younger. And we still nedd to see what he can do.
Newman can still get burned at times, but he can also make plays.

He was aided greatly by dismal QB play. He still had a lot of bad plays.

He was always a quality cornerback for us, who was constantly playing through injuries. A very undervalued player while he was here. That being said he is just playing until he doesn't have a job anymore, Mo is better.

Good organizations....emphasis on good......do not keep core groups around that do not win. Only bad organizations do that.....and they usually do that under the guise of "leadership"....but the spotlight and pressure in Dallas is so intense....these "leaders" usually turn into ornery guys just cashing a paycheck...which is BAD for the lockeroom. But Ratliff, and Bradie James, and Newman, and Ware and Miles and Gurode and Hatcher...all drafted by the team..look at how long some of those guys hung around without ever having to "win". And I am not just talking Super Bowl...just a winning atmosphere with a legit playoff run sprinkled in. I cannot put my finger on what is about the culture of Dallas...that prevents our talent from translating into wins. Do we consistently overestimate our talent....or the obvious answer to a rotten culture (Jerry Jones).....is simply that hard to overcome?

I was just thinking the same thing about Newman leaving here and doing well in Cincy the other day.

People injuries happen all the time in the NFL and in life....what makes this teams injuries "frail...mentally and physically"?...any different then others. I mean this team is showing some light, the defense looked real good...the offense last week just need another 2 more series to figure out the Miami scheme, I mean really Dallas is actually establishing a identity on defense, bend but don't break and force turnover in actually optimistic

I think Newman often got a bad rap in Dallas with many of the fan base. He was a solid player for the Cowboys yet many fans constantly ragged on him.

But at least they owned their mistakes, eventually. This thread, for instance.

He looked like the declining player that he was before he left.

Torched on the deep ball.

The only difference is he didn't drop a ball thrown right to him (like he did more than once against Eli.)

To say that he was real good is comical at best. Has he got something left in the tank? Yeah. Real good? Those days are behind him.

Let me start by saying I was always a Newman fan. I think he was very under appreciated while he was here, mainly over his last few years. That said, while he did miss a few games, that was not really his problem. He was tough and played hurt quite often, but that was the actual problem. He seemed to be dinged up or hurt every week. When you combine that with his age and salary, I'm sure the Cowboys (I know I did) started looking at the odds of those dings getting worse and taking longer to heal as he got older.

Sometimes you guess right and sometimes you guess wrong, but once a player hits 30, if you think the odds are against him giving you 16+ solid games, you are better off letting him and his higher cap hit leave. It's sad when that means letting someone go like Ware who has been a great player, teammate and person for the team for so long, but in the end, the system leaves you few choices. You cannot expect a player, who probably has one last great contract in their career, to take a fraction of their salary nor should you blame the team for not being willing or able to risk the cap hit for keeping them.

I agree. I think in todays game with FA and caps that teams are forced to cut players loose. Prior to FA players would stay over the course of their career.

True, and sadly in almost all other professions, that would fall within age discrimination.

That pick 6 was gift wrapped to Newman, all he had to do was run the ball into the endzone.

Straight Line speed never been a problem for Newman, all Cowboy fans could agree on that
