Who thought our running game looked bad last night?

Go to NFL.com, check out the stats for the skins tonight, do a little math, and you come up with 22 rushing attempts for 30 yards. Not exactly stellar!

Just because someone else was worse does not not make our stats good. Our OL is a work in progress. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the skins have a train wreck.

Their top two backs also combined for exactly 1 carry, and both are expected to be healthy by the start of the regular season (although there could still be some bad news forthcoming on Portis).

So what! I would think you could pull a fan out of the stands and get 30 yards if you gave it to him 22 times!

Bill needs to find a running game soon or he's going to fail with the Cowboys the same way Jimmy Johnson did with the Fins. You can rebuild a great defense, have an effective veteran QB, but if you can't run it, you can't win it.

I can't tell any more if the problem stems from an under-achieving running game or underachieving OL play. From the looks of it, I'm starting to think it's a combination of the two.

Probably has a bit to do with both, but last night I thought the o-line was the guiltier culprit. Julius was showing a pretty decent burst off his initial cut and the same went for MBIII.

There weren't any defenders in the backfield, which is good I guess, but there were absolutely no holes last night.

Preseason game 1???

Our running game and OL have been sputtering for years now. Partly it's due to injury, but still, sputtering is sputtering. And while this was "just" preseaason game 1 , it was a continuation of the same sputtering running-game. Now,is it due to the RBs, the OL or both? I 'm afraid it's BOTH. :(

Dont panic people. First off Parcells is rotating a bunch of OL guys to find out what we have. Once he picks his guys they will be able to develope a feel for one another. When TO and Glenn are in there D's will have to scheme a whole lot different.

The first preseason game = no game planning and constantly changing personel. How can anyone tell anything from last night under that circumstance?

Part of me wonders if maybe we should have drafted Steven Jackson when we had the chance. He has been more consistant than Julius.

I thought they looked about as good or a little better than Seatle's running game. Maybe Seatle has a prett good defense too, they did make it to the super bowl. Or maybe at this point in the season the defenses are a little ahead of the offenses. The encouraging thing was the little dumps romo was doing in to the backs in the middle of the field. They were all good for 8-15 yards.

I think we will be fine with Jones , Barber and Thompson.
Sure but will they be fine with the OL the way it was run blocking last night. I'm not throwing in the towel just yet but those who say we need to get better in the run game are exactly right. And it is on the O-Line that we need to improve.

As for the Skins running game...I expect it to get better but if it doesn't I won't care. This early in the preseason there is very little of less relevance to me than the Skins running game.

That's not the problem.

It's the O-Line.
IT SUCKS.
Granted they are not experts on our O-line, but Lunquist and Moon stated during the game that our line looked improved. With the changing personel we were pretty consistent but not perfect. For the first preseason game I was actually a little impressed.

the blocking sux A-F...doesnt get any easier to explain...when guys are constantly running free into the backfield, the problem is obvious

no he hasnt...and even if he were he'd have even less success with his running style behind our sorry OL...he doesnt make anyone miss, and with our blocking that is a requirement
