Emmitt was asked that very question and couldn't answer it or didn't want to. I would have to go with Moose he was there from the very first time Emmitt lined up in the backfield as a rookie. Emmitt had already established himself as a great runner winning several rushing titles before Allen arrived in Dallas.

Troy was overrated because he had Irvin.

Irvin was overrated because he had Emmitt wearing down defenses.

Emmitt was overrated because of the offensive line.

The offensive line was pretty overrated because of the skill players.

The offense as a whole was overrated because of the defense.

The defense was overrated because the offense was great with TOP.

They won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years but there were no standout all time great teams... the 1999 Rams were better than any of those teams.

It wasn't a tough era.

Probably the most underrated and underappreciated dynasty in NFL history.

Emmitt won 3 of his 4 rushing titles before Allen even became a pro.

Yeah. The line was so bad that Larry Allen only broke in because Erik Williams got in a car accident.

Let's ask better questions OP

And the next year he was the starting right guard and proclaimed to be the best offensive lineman in the NFL by John Madden.

I think my questions are fine.

I would go with Allen but I'm not sure. I feel like Jimmy and Norvs confidence to run and stick with it came from the line and Allen was best amongst it in my opinion.

But remember Allen didn't show up until the great Barry Switzer was hired in 1994. Jimmy and Norv we're gone.

Newton/Gogan/Williams, Tuinie (sp?), Moose. and then Allen to finish. Love Moose but he can't hide a bad OL but was also a great outlet for Aikman on passing downs. I think Williams set the tone and Allen was the HOF to finalize the core (Moose shouldn't be devalued bc of the great OL either); Williams would have been in the HOF too without the car wreck, etc.

There's a reason that Emmitt and Moose are still good friends and had thanked him specifically after winning the rushing title;)

Good point. I do feel Emmitt's success was part of a mentality of the team not only the mentality of just Emmitt nor of Moose's role. I am not sure what is the key ingredient of that success accept the overall mentality. Perhaps not Allen and more Tuinei and E Williams types. It's a good question. I love Moose. Always have but I never felt a depth of his impact watching my team. Emmitt's comments about him do open my eyes to that impact.

And after that year, Smith was a good but not great back. You really miss here as the best and most dominant work was largely pre-Allen.
