Kiffin always plays a 1, as does every other team (or 0), or you could just run up the a gap for 4-5 yards every play.

The Tampa 2 is a variant of Noll's D under Carson and is a gap attacking D. So yes you will see someone at times attacking the 3 gap and another attacking the 1 in an under/over scheme. But you may also see them both on the outside of the guard. Also the "1" technique DT will not control that gap nearly as often as attacking or grabbing the gap. You're also going to see a lot of blitzes and stunts into the gaps. I didn't mean to make it seem so simple but you're not going to see us controlling gaps or playing st8 up nearly as often as splitting it. You'll see the DTs pinching their gaps as well to clog the middle with the Mike as well. You don't want big space eaters in this D as they most often either don't collapse the pocket consistently and if they are controlling a gap then they aren't going to be rushing the passer. It'll be the LBs along with blitzes and stunts with the DL controlling the run and protecting any holes they make by splitting the gaps; as well as getting up the field and disrupting the play.
