This isn't the most glamourous of positions but outside of our O Tackle problems, I think it may be our most glaring problem. I haven't seen a lot of talk on here about it but everyone on this board held their breath every time one of these scrap heap guys came on the field at crucial points in the season. Everyone saw Cowher, Dungy et all mouth the words "he missed it" when Vanderjagt missed. NO ONE on the Dallas sideline would be shocked if any of our kickers missed. We pray and are almost surprised when our kickers make it.

I really need that crap to end. We need to get a proven guy this offseason. Here are the candidates.

2006 NFL Free Agents
Place Kickers

Player Type 2005 Team
Aaron Elling RFA Ravens
Adam Vinatieri UFA Patriots
Joe Nedney UFA 49ers
Jose Cortez UFA Eagles
Josh Brown RFA Seahawks
Matt Bryant UFA Buccaneers
Mike Vanderjagt UFA Colts
Paul Edinger UFA Vikings
Ryan Longwell UFA Packers
Todd Peterson UFA Falcons

I can't see anyone prying Vinatieri from New England or Longwell from the Packers but what about Brown, Bryant or maybe Edinger? Any chance we could get a money kicker this year an end this nonsense?

That order would do.

Agreed. But those guys will resign for sure won't they? Although the Packers might not want to spend top money to resign Longwell since they're hitting a rebuilding phase. But I think that might just be homer thinking on our part.

Mike Vanderjagt is OUT in Indy...that guy is so gone the GM or owner would pack his bags for him.

Now I would rather have Adam V...and I would not mind Longwell.

vanderjagt probably gone. missed the kick plus salary cap is really tight in indy.
longwell may be gone just because theyre rebuilding.
vinateiri may be gone from salary cap issues.

Do Vinatieri, Vanderjagt and Longwell all handle kick-offs? I thought Vanderjagt didnt kick off for the Colts, and that surely factors in.

Out of the big three kickers who look like they will be available, my hunch is that Vanderjagt is last, but it's not like he's a bad consolation prize.

I think Vinatieri will be the toughest to get.

Longwell is the guy that really has my attention.

I'd go Nedney. Long term answer, and real accurate. Plus, he does kickoffs. What's the drawback there?

2)Mike Vanderjagt UFA Colts(2) We all know he's money

3)Ryan Longwell UFA Packers(3) 82% career FG....nice kickoffs

He wasn't with the Eagles at the end was he? I seem to remember him kicking off for one of the playoff teams?

Adam Vinatieri!!

PLEASE MAke this happen Parcells!!!

Parcells brought him in to the league back in 1996 with New England. He beat out Parcells favorite kicker Matt Bahr to win the job in 1996.

Vinatieri, Longwell and Vanderjagt all scored about 1 - 1.5 mil last year right? It wouldn't hurt the salary cap that hard to sign them would it? If the Jones' can change philosophy from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and let Parcells fire Hoffman, they can let Parcells sign a decent kicker.

Mike Vanderjagt or Adam Vinatieri would be my first choices. If neither are an option, bring back Hoffman and sign the best vet we can get.
